Default Rancho arms?

I know some of you guys don't like Fabtech, but what do you think of the Rancho kit for Toyotas?
I've recently picked up a used, good condition kit. I want it not so much for the lift but for more travel.
I've heard you can gain a few more inches with it. I don't really have the cash for a custom set up right now, so I figured I could still have some fun with this in the mean time.

Does any one have any experience with this kit? I was looking how every thing would go together tonight and noticed that the front crossmember would drop my front diff about two inches or so. I'm guessing that is just for giving the truck some height. I was figuring if I just leave the stock crossmember and replace only the upper arms I gain the travel with out having to lift the truck. Does that sound like it would work? It looks like it would. Or would it have some other negative affects in other places, like the CVs and the steering componants?
