buying a truck this weekend, need some advise. it's an '87 toyota 4x4, standard cab with a 5spd. it has a 22r motor. how much time/work/money would be involved with swapping a 22re into it? will it hook up to the trans seemlessly? is it more or less just getting the cpu? does everything just hook up? I plan on getting a crate motor. also is there that big of a differance between the 22re and 22r (besides carb vs. EFI) is it worth swapping out? any info would be really appricated.
Thanks in advance

everything will swap over and bolt up. the blocks and heads are the same. you will need to ad the complete engine harness and ECM to the truck. but the trans will bolt up as will all your accessories, ac, ps and so on.
the RE mtor has more power and is more efficient, but you gotta love the simplicity of a carb'd motor.

The bank ruined my fun, won't let me buy the truck. will only give me the blue book value. bunch of crap. guess i'll have to wait until i'm done with school until i get the prerunner going and finish my camaro until then. thanks for the info all!

like matt said, basically you could buy the intake of a RE and ecm and harness. It will all bolt right up, youll also need a different exhaust because i believe the O2 senor is downstream and not on the manifold like the carbed motor. You will need the intake tube with air flow meter as well. That is the major stuff but im sure theres more small parts that would have to be swapped. Fuel pump for example because efi needs more pressure. Great truck though, mines an 88 wi th a Re and i love it.
Sorry a little late, you posted right as i did.
