Some quick questions...
Why do people sometimes build a 3 link vs a 4 link? I dont see a difference besides and extra heim.
Ive seen some wishbones backwards why is this done?
On a lower link why do some people use plate only for the whole link where some use tubing and plate?

Here you go Morgan, this thread has tons and tons of info on linkage suspension. It's pretty long, but worth it, have fun!

A three link is obviously simpler and less expensive to build. The advantage of the 4 link is rear roll axis. I think the thread elcap linked gets into this.

nice thing about a 4-link, you can cary a spare link. You will see upper links going backwards every once in a while. The only reason I know of is to keep the stock tank in the stock location.

The real advantage to a 4-link is not side-loading a single rod-end. Rod-ends were not designed to be used this way, and tend to break/wear out in a 3-link set-up. 4-link is WAY stronger!!!

I have to disagree about which advantage is more important. Sideloads = wear/breakage is not arguable. However, that is a maint. replacement expense where the roll axis, if wrong, is a drivability issue. Rear steer isn't generally something you want. That a 4 link is stronger with quite possibly less unsprung weight should be the decider by itself.
