I'm eyeballing a buddy's F150... he got it from his dad, who basically drove it long distances around Las Vegas for a decade. 107,000 miles. Interior is immaculate, and I have no reason to believe he didn't change the mile every 3000 miles.

So... if a 302/5.0 has been well maintained... how long should it last? What breaks first? What should be replaced first.

Thanks all!!!

Hope I dont jinx myself, but I have a 95' F-1 with the 302 with 92,000 miles. The last 3 years I have taken it to the desert many times and driven it to a lot of races. I do all regular maintinance. This is what I have done that has been major, new water pump about a year and half ago, and replaced intake manifold, old one had very tiny hole in it. That is it. Still runs strong.

My Wifes 94 Bronco has the 5.0 with 178,000 on it and its still running strong, Its never been rebuilt and the oilchanges were about every 5000 miles. Its seen the desert alot in the last 50k and all is still great.

I had a 94 F150 with a 5.0, with about 160k on it & was still running like a champ(solid it), My dads 95 Bronco with a 5.8 is at about 150k running good, and on its 2nd tranny(he drives like a grandpa). My experience with friends & mechanics in the past is dont expect to go much over 200k, not to say that I havent heard about one that has gone over 300k!!!

my '94 F150 has 97,000 on it and it still runs strong. The only problems I have had were in the fuel system, but that was my fault. Even if the motor goes to crap there are plenty of parts out there to build a bigger, badder one for not that much coin. I say get it, even more so if he's gonna give you a smokin deal.

frequent oil changes is usually the key....the 2 5.0's I've had had over 275k when I sold them & they were running great. One of them that I kept track of went 400k before it needed to be changed.....

While I'm asking... what kinda gas mileage does everybody get w/ the 302 (or the 351, for that matter)?

My f1 with the 5.8 gets about 10 around town and 12 on the freeway, but it needs to be regeared, and my motor and tranny have 170k on them with no major problems, anthough the E40D is probably about to crap out on me soon. I see no reason why you shouldn't get at least 150-175,000 without problems.
