I am trying to get some sort of approximation on what type of fuel mileage we can expect with our Northstar V-8. We are going to be running it about 4-6k rpm all day long at the race this weekend. We have not done enough testing to get a number so we are kinda guessing around trying to get a number. Not sure if like 5-8mpg is reasonable number ? any thoughts or know for a fact. Thanks for the last minute help.

if you don`t get at least 5mpg out of that northstar i`d be seriously suprised.

well I know you have a fortin so I would say easy 6. The LS6 with a fortin are getting 6.5 to 7.

Some where around 6-8 sounds pretty good for me, probably error on the low side.

How did the mileage turn out on the Northstar?

At first we were way off, we figured 3.4 mpg and were really shocked. Little did we realize somebody pulled 11 gallons out before running the car which threw our number off by a lot. Based upon our calcs we were getting somewhere right around 6.2-7 mpg. Keep in mind the gearing in our tranny was waaay off from our previous motor so we were running in 4th and 5th all day long at high rpms( 4500-6500) and only getting top speed of about 95mph which really hurt us on that fast course. As our first race on the motor we are utterly amazed with the performace in the desert application. The engine did everything we wanted it to do and never talked back, amazing set-up. Best of all its ready to go for the next race with an oil change.

FYI - The red dump cans that most of us use are not very accurate. We have almost 20 in the shop and the ones we checked were actually 11.7 gallons at the 11 gallon mark. They are really off by percentage at the lower levels.
