Toyota rear end ?'s

I may be trading a guy for a 2wd rear end out of a 98 Tacoma. I know its wider, but what size is the rear end. What parts are there avaliable and is this a stronger rear end ( I have the 7.5"). I guess any info
would be helpfull.

Its a 8.25"....not the same as the Toyota 8" they do not offer a spool for it but they offer gears and lockers for it....

Just to add to what Fishdood said, the lockers available for it are the ARB selectable one, the Lockright from Powertrax, and the No Slip from Powertrax. The No Slip requires careful installation or else it might break. I have the Lockright and like it alot, even on a daily driven vehicle like mine. I believe there is a limited slip available as well (maybe two limited slips?), but I don't remember what brand, although I think it's Eaton or TRD (or maybe Eaton makes it for TRD?).

You can get factory 4.56 gear ratio (which is what I have), and of course a bunch of different aftermarket gear ratios for it.

Is there a difference between the 4cyl and the V6 rears, this one is a 2wd 4cyl.

I think I misunderstood your original question. Sounds like you're getting a rear diff/axle from a 2wd mini Tacoma, not the 2wd Prerunner, right? If so, then I don't know what size rear end it is or what lockers may be available for it. The rear out of a Prerunner model without the TRD option is the same size as the 4wd model, regardless of whether the truck is a 2.7L 4 cyl. or a 3.4L V6. But I don't know anything about the 2wd mini Tacomas and whether there's a difference in size in the 2.4L (not the 2.7L) 4 cyl. and the 3.4L V6. a company out of australia makes full spools for the tacoma rear ends www.difftechnics.com. I havent ordered anything yet but they said they had one for the 8.25"
