I am putting in a new steering wheel in my 97 S10 this week. The new steering wheel does not have an airbag so i want to know how it discharge the airbag I have now without making it come out. What wires do I connect to make it so that i can remove it and sell it again. Then once I put it in my airbag light will constantly be on so what wires do i need to connect to make it so that the light turns off. Thanks.

take it to a body shop and see if they will buy the air bag and remove it too. isn't a federal crime to tamper with a air bag if you are not certified to remove it? you might check and see to be safe. i have sold some here in az to the bodyshop down the street from us.

get a chilton's manual for 15 bucks , mine explains it perfectly ...

pull the fuse first , then they give you an order for unhooking. im pretty sure thats only important if its going back in though. it shows you how to unhook the 3 crash sensors too. best 15 bucks i've ever spent ....

I'm a nissan tech... I remove Airbags all the time.. no certification for it.. not sure if you will be able to remove the airbag and make the light shut off, but as for un-installing.. unhook the battery for like 20 min to clear the system of any charge!! then remove like normal.. but if yuo find a body shop to buy it and remove it... go for it!

could the air bag plug be jumpered to turn off the light?

A jumper could quite possibly work.. but as for the legality of re-sale.. not sure.. I would stick with the body shop deal there.

I have heard of people reselling them before, dont know if it is legal but dont junkyards have them for sale too? I am going to sell mine anyway cuz i need the extra cash. I am getting the chiltons and steering wheel and hub tomorrow. I am not very electricaly inclined but well see how it goes. Thanks for the info.

i don't know what the going rate for a complete air bar wheel is. but a few years back there were people stealing them from cars and then trying to sell them to the shops. we went straight to the shop so they would know that the deal was legit. i want to say that we got close to 1k for them 3-4 years ago.

You got that money by not taking it out yourself and having a shop do it? What shop did it? what kind of shop do you mean, like a body shop that repairs crashed cars? What about sellign it to pick a part or something, think i would get good money for it from them?
