View Full Version : Screeching Rear End?

Three months back I had the stock limited slip in my Ranger resurfaced with carbon fiber instead of the stock paper(?). I was told the carbon fiber would grip more. I have no functional complaints, but there's now an intermittent metal-to-metal screeching noise coming from back there that's loud enough to frighten dogs and small children. Anyone have this experience?

No, but I had one chatter so bad it felt like you popped an axle every time you turned.

Have you tried using a friction modifier with the gear lube?
I had what I think was a similar problem with an Auburn diff. and the friction modifer fixed it.

Jeff,
Thanks, that's exactly what another RDC guy suggested so I tried it today. So far, no more noise! Yeah!

When I re-geared my 8.8 in my F-150 I was told to use Ford's brand and if you can get your hands on some of the older formula I was told it works better.
