Have you ever seen the trick cromolly steering box ( kinda bell crank style) on that thing? Travel isnt the problem its getting the thing to steer. The steering box is next to the driver with a bunch of linkage and boxes. Zero bump steer with steering wheel feed back and centering. I see all the jeep guys using hydro-rams, those things must be scary at any speed over 25mph. Like driving a fork lift.

Most of the buggy race cars (1/2 1600, 10 , SCORE Lite) use Charlyn power steering unts....those are from fork lifts.

Haven't had a chance to see that one, but when the Nelson built Chevy truck came out around '88 I think it had something similar. It went from the steering wheel to a quickening box, from that to the steering gear behind the seats, then a drag link up to a bell crank of sorts then a tie rod to each spindle. At least thats how I remember it, may have left something out.

Are the Charlyn Units self centering? I drove a solid axle bronco with full Hydo-ram steering and it had zero feedback (skettchy) I couldn't see how you could safley drive it at speed? For instance, if you had any over steer I think you would be screwed?

Charlyn, scary at speed on pavement, no centering, no feel...went to a Howe/ram..night and day

Charlyn also has a torque assist unit that you mount inline to a manual box or rack. If you play with the pump a little you can get it to work pretty slick. You still get feed back it just ends up feeling a lot less harsh.

Im sure the assist unit works great but with the soild axle four link the goal would be to elimante the box and have some sort of axle mounted steering with wheel induced feedback. But it seams the Leduc style is the only proven system? Just seams like too many moving parts.
