Hey guys - hopefully this is a quicky.
I am down at my dads and trying to pull the codes off his 96, 2wd, 4 banger, ranger. The problem is I can't find the test plug (to connect the truck to the scanner) for the life of me. I have looked all over the dang thing.
I know on my 89 2.3L, the 90 T-bird motor that's in the truck now, and on the 93 explorer the plug is right next to the fuse box in the engine compartment. BUT, since this truck is newer then what I'm used to working on - did the test plug move? Is it in a different location on the newer trucks? Or - am I just blind as a bat and missing it? Thanks in advance. Steve

if its OBD2 then the DLC is under the dr. side of the dash behind a little cover that pops off. if its the old style then the connector in under the hood at the fire wall near the booster, i believe.

Thanks. I did actually find it (under the dash) and said "naw - that ain't it" and moved on. Little did I know the connection plug changed somewhere over the years and I didn't have the adapter for the new type plug. Steve

yeah, that means its OBD2. the connector is the same on all OBD2 cars. it makes it real easy to pull codes. OBD1 cars all had different style data link connectors and were in different places. if you need a code description let me know i can look it up for you by the number.

Yup it's OBD2 - my uncle has the connector and I didn't realise it til today. Thanks for the offer on the code help. The scanner usually has the explanation of the code come up on the screen - if it doesn't I'll need help. Thanks. Steve
