Rich,
Any idea if we are going to race the extended portion of the track or any new sections for the Season Opener? It seems everyone liked the extended version.

Patty is read'n my mind...... :)
We will be running counter clockwise this weekend.
In April we will run clockwise and run the extended course from last year.
Sept we will run a new version of the track that will be longer than the extended, then Oct run the new one backwards.
$ different courses at one place....hope everyone will enjoy the new area.
Rich
We drained most of the big ponds today. So they should not come into play, no scuba gear needed. :)

Hey Rich --
Is Jeep Speed attending this race... I've been milling around some cheapppp! advertizing ideas and was just wondering if they were making an appearance this spring-- march or april??
Big_Rich
March 28th, 2003, 05:23
As a group, no JeepSpeed is not part of vorra this year. but the offer has been made for them to come and play.
The ponds should be of little factor this weekend,
No time trials or qualifing, we will draw for starting spots, then reverse tha order for the second moto. Going back in history for this one event at least.

Are we still using the land rush start?! It's the most exciting part of the race!!!

We are considering it, but it depends on a couple of things.

Rich, Not sure if you will read this before tomorrow. I hope to be there with my video camera, would it be a problem to get out on the course if I have my orange shirt on? I would like to get some last minute footage for our next video, Dezert People - Second Lap. I might even be able to bring and on-board camera to mount on someones truck...

Well then. Perhaps I can help with a little IN-CAR FOOTAGE! WOO HOO! Curtis, I got your address and will be sending the original tape to you ASAP. (It's still uploading, so give it until about 9:30.)
I must apologize to Fred Calasso. He was VERY upset with me for nerfing him about a million times during the 2nd moto. "If you're faster, just pass me." Naturally, we thought it was a blast and very clean racing, but he didn't see it that way. As you'll see from this clip he was holding me up quite a bit, and I could have cleaned his clock every time he parked it in the corners and zig-zagged across the track. I was expecting a high-five and a beer, but I got a s**t sandwich instead. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to try harder next time. Or perhaps Fred could speed up and solve the problem himself...
Patty, you're going to love this...
Good job to Rich Klein. The track was like a freeway! Maybe if there was more bumps?!?
See you all next time, and Fred, I owe you a beer. (You can build your own bumper)

Bill,
Very nice footage. What type of camera setup are you using in the truck. It sure seems stable and clear, better than most I've seen. Very nice to have the radio on the tape, too.

Bill- what was Fred complaining about, he chopped you off in the corner 3 separate times in the video. Is he wondering why his right bed side is tweaked? If he were on pavement, he would have gone around, and truthfully, I wouldn't have braked the second time he came into me on a corner. And he got the lead! You held your line just fine. Great footage.
If your gonna go, go BIG

Thanks guys. martinsocal, that's kind how we felt, too, but we were willing to go slap him on the back, shake his hand, and congratulate him on a great piece of defensive driving. He actually told my brother to f off. That changed our attitude quite a bit. Especially after he did it again when I tried to go over and find out what the problem was. The rest of the tape shows a lot more than this clip, but I can't post it all. I hope it all smooths out, because I have a lot more to lose than he does with an ongoing grudge.
I'm using an ancient Digital Hi-8 Sony 215 (I think) that I borrowed from a guy at work. The lens is some cheapy compact security camera that's about 3"x3" and can be mounted anywhere. This old camera has RCA jacks, so you just put the RCA jacks from the remote into them, and then plug in a 9V battery to power the remote. I actually just put all that crap in the camera bag and zipped it up, and then just left it sitting between the seats. We've already found the locations for the suspension-cam shots front and rear, we just didn't have time to make more mounts for them. I had it all working for the first moto (WHICH I WON AFTER A GREAT OUTSIDE PASS ON FRED!) but the camera either switched off when we put it back in the bag, or through bumping around in it. We had planned on adding foam and a real way to secure it in the truck to keep it from flashing out when it gets a bump.
I'll probably have to break the link when our server gets too busy.

I can't say for sure who else got what, but there were 9 trucks lined up for the 1st moto. It was a lot of fun. Sorry you couldn't make it, and sorry to hear there was bad news.
You should stop by and see the truck. It's real pretty, except for the big hole in the left front fender...

So who won overall for 7Open. How is the winner determined? Both heat times combined? Fastest time overall? I'll be by soon.

First Motto Postion Finishing Points/ Laps Second Motto Postion Finishing Points/Laps if there is a tie on points who ever did better the second motto wins. Fred took first I believe. Don't quote me Jenny is still the point wizard.

Bubba Ray,
First, please give your photographer a big ol wet sloppy kiss! Or let me do it.
THAT IS A PICTURE! It looks like I broke the front end in that picture. I guess Jerry Zaiden at Camburg Engineering is to blame for that. Brett King, too. I think that's my new icon on the board. I can say that Goodyear and Lil Joe are also culprits...
Just wanna say, that's the first time we put on that truck since we redid it. I love my crew and my bro for doing that. Preferred Image in Los Gatos (Gary Fowler) is responsible for the paint, Stretch Boards in Santa Cruz fixed the fiberglass. Imagine if we tuned the motor, played with the valving/springs, or unleashed the rear suspension. We ain't going to the MDR race this weekend, and it hurts.
Fred was worried that I'd hit him and make HIS truck look worse. Guess I'll send him a hatchet and a shovel.

If I can get her out a little earlier at the next race, I'll drag her around the pits cause she didn't get to meet anyone outside of Lenny on Sunday and she couldn't make it out on Saturday.
