I have a question for your class 7s builders. I have a Ford Ranger 2003 XLT extended cab I was going to use as a base and build a 7s truck with it. I was going to drop a new 3 liter motor in it to conform to the 3 Liter limit for 7s….however, I think I just discovered that my frame has a wheel base of 125.9”, and if I remember correctly the 7s has a limit of 125”. My questions are am I first correct in the engine size limit, and second, am I also correct in the wheel base being 125”. (I have been waiting 4 weeks for my SCORE rule book, and am tired of pacing in my ready to go shop :) ). I would stick to the classes I know, but change is a good thing. Thanks for the help.

Yes, 3 liter limit on the motor. There is no wheelbase limit.

Put the SOHC 4.0 in it and forget it....
Everyone racing SCORE has gone to 7SX,(4.0) and if you leave it stock you can run BITD and MORE in 7s/7100
The 4.0 SOHC puts out get power in stock form and has great torque- you'll thank me later.............
As for the wheel base, as long as it's stock you'll be alright. I think the rules say + or - 1" anyways.

Thanks for the Info...Is the 7SX its own catagory, in that they do not run against the 7S entries? Also, I was under the impression that everyone pretty much used the SCORE rules as a general guideline. Sounds like everyone has there own classes, and i'll need several different rides to play.

X2 for the 4.0 SOHC, 205 HP stock on pump gas. I've raced the same engine for the past three years changing only the oil and plugs. When it dies then I buy another junk yard motor for between $700 and $1,000. For what you would pay to build, maintain and fuel the 3.0, you could put that money somewhere else in the truck.
For what it's worth, I built my truck following SCORE's rules for the cage, and BITD rules for the suspension and engine.

Thanks Rocket, excellent links, very helpful.
DSRacing, I do agree those 4.0L SOHC, are bomb proof and easy to replace. I have seen ready to go motors in the autotrader for 1000 bucks with 3 year warranties. I was only against them because I thought I couldn't race with them in the 7s class. I have since been corrected and I can use them as long as I don't modify them...and since a stock one will turn over 200hp, there is no need :)
Now come the hard question of where to begin..:)

That's the way to do it.

I like the idea of building it SCORE cage and BITD suspension...with one question, how will this line up rule wise against the other local race groups for me like MDR, MORE, etc.?

We currently race in the MDR Superstition series, We have had trucks race with us who have competed in all the different sanctioning bodies, BITD, SCORE, CODE, MDR and MORE. Prior to buying the truck we race now, it was raced in both SCORE and BITD. Suspension wise, all the sanctioning bodies are very close regarding their rules.
12" max for front travel and around 16" average for the rear. If you build a truck to BITD suspension rules, you will be able to race anywhere.
