A/C has always been an option on Toyota trucks. Even the T-100 had to be ordered with a/c. I work at a Toyota dealer so if you need anything let me know. I work in service.

yeah- so i figured out mine has AC. i bought a charging thing, but it didnt seem to do anything. the gauge will go up when im pushing it, but as soon as i let up on the button, it will go back to green (low). i don't know if i just need to put more refrigerant in or what. i thought after one can though i would see some change in the reading, but maybe not. im hoping it isnt a major problem. any help would be appreciated.

I had a problem with the AC on my Tacoma. Do you use yours for offroad by any chance?

The unit is under the dash on the right side and there's a tube that goes through the firewall, take a look at it and see if it's not cracked. If it is, you'll need to replace the whole unit. I found one pretty cheap at my local junk yard.

I honestly don't remember, it was about 4 or 5 years and 2 Tacoma's ago

It wasn't much though, I was young and broke at the time (well more broke than now) and it didn't set me back too much, I would guess just over $100 and under $150

I just remembered I think there is also one thin tube in the front between the grill and the radiator that also cracked on my older 1995 Tacoma.
