This is a night time satellite photo of the Korean peninsula. One half is a capitalist country and the other half is a communist country. Can you guess which is which?

Take your time.

On the bright side (no pun intended) there must be great skies for Astronomy enthusiasts. But I don't think anyone can afford a telescope over there.

Just think of the positive influence North Korea is having on global warming though. They are definately setting a good example. Someday America may look like this too if the Democrats have their way.

You can't see the lights through the smog and global warming gases. :D

None specifically of China, but here's the whole globe.

Was stationed in Korea for a year many years ago. Nothing worse than being on a bus filled with locals and choking from the smell of Kimchi emanating from their pores. But then again the rice patties were fertilized with human and animal waste. Summer is not a good time to go to Korea.

That's way cool. Not a whole lot up in Alaska, but when it averages out three acres to a person, there wouldn't be.

I'm not sure if it's three acres or not but it's close.

Trey, I hate to come to PJC defense but pictures can vary depending on the conditions they were taken.

I concur NASA's N. Korea's picture has at least 4 small cities lit, but still pales in comparison to S. Korea.

Ironically, the city of Tucson has a city ordinance to reduce light pollution due to the proximity of Kitt peak Observatory.....It leads the world on Light pollution laws.

So, in the future the more civilized you are you will use your light sources better, I guess in a way N. Korea has sat on the bench during the whole game:D

Actually the facts of the picture are this:

The regime in the north is so short of electricity that the whole country is switched off at 9 p.m. - apart from the capital of Pyongyang where dictator Kim Jong-il and his cohorts live in relative luxury. But even there, lighting is drastically reduced.

It's a simple case of another dictatorship running a country into the ground.

back in the day my sister went to Seoul for Olympic trials for track and field (this is back in right before 1988, and she said that they weren't aloud to take photos once they cross tover to N. Korea, she said it was completely the opposite of south korea.
