What would you use a 1-1/16 or a 1-1/4 master cylinder for. These seem like awefully large bore sizes.

Those can be used with a caliper with an awfully large bore size. Like the larger single piston GM types.
M/C bores up to 1.5" are not rare in front of Hydroboost units.

1 1/16" is pretty common/recommended size for fullsize vehicles. They're used quite a bit, for example, in the early Bronco world. 1 1/4" is used, like the other post noted, on some hydroboost setups. Late model Dodge pickups use that size. My Super Duty (hydroboost) has a 1 3/8" bore master cylinder.
