One Poster stated that Muslims could not be good Americans, and it started me thinking about what is a good American.

Directions:
A. I want YOUR personal opinion on the Definition of a "Good American".
B. I don't want to know who you think is a Good American.
C. I REALLY DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHO YOU THINK ISN'T A GOOD AMERICAN. (your probably wrong any ways.)lol.

Hint: Values,Beliefs,Character,Gender,Race,Sexuall preference,Religious Beliefs,Morals ect.

Note: I'm Calling out ALL posters on here especially the ones who seem to always post their beliefs and values on RDC. I will post names of people I'd like to hear from If I have to.

Just so we are clear I don't think I'm a "Good American".

A good American is one who is able to reach compromise in issues where there are opposing views.
A good American puts his people and his country ahead of his personal gain.
A good American is tolerant of religions, UNTIL people use the guise of "religion" to undermine AMERICA.
A good American considers the freedoms he has, and doesn't take those freedoms for granted.
A good American understands and accepts personal responsibility.
A good American can be a man, a woman, of ANY ethnic background, but his allegiance must now lie with the country he lives in, not where he comes from.
A good American knows that if his view is socially unacceptable, he keeps them to himself and doesn't file lawsuit so that his strange ways are forced upon the rest of society. (and doesn't blow millions of tax dollars for PERSONAL gain!)
A good American considers his fellow American, and lends a hand when he needs it. That same American also recognizes when people have become lazy and still expect handouts, and the good American tells him no.
A good American should offer to serve in our nations Armed Forces.
A good American stands up for what is MORALLY RIGHT, not what MTV says is cool.

Although I am not American, I think I can offer something:

A GOOD American is a GOOD person ....and a GOOD person is a person who "treats others as he / she would like to be treated."

I hope my nationality doesn’t interfere and puts me in the list of the undesirable posters :p

I think that was a wonderful answer Gustavo. I wish you could get more people of your nationality to subscribe to that thinking.

Sheaco, why don't you throw out what you think qualifies an American as a "good American"?

Here is my nickles worth:

A good American (or any human really)

Respects and obeys the law. All of them, all of the time, even if, nay especially if, you dont like the law. If you dont like the law, change it. Thats why we have the constitution. I think every good American should be a card carrying member of the ACLU. I personally despise most of the cases they represent but thats the point. We dont get to pick and choose which laws we like to obey and those we dont. They fight for the LAW.

Oh, and that includes paying your taxes (Mr. SNIPES!)

Respects other citizens; of our country, and our race (the human race). It may sound odd but I stop in road and wave to little old ladies, mothers with kids, young 'uns, to cross the road in safety. I get honked at all the time but I know I would want someone to stop and use 3 tonnes of Hummer to protect my wife, mother, or kids while crossing the road. I dont walk by trash. If its in sidewalk, I pick it up an throw it away.

Votes. Simple as that. If you don't participate in the system you have no right to complain.

Serves. In the military, in soup kitchen, in the service group of your choice, to make life better for someone else. Myfavorite image in the whole world is a USMC 5 Tonne 6x6 stuffed with toys and bicycles for underpriviliged children. That is the definition of an iron fist in a velvet glove.

Best for last;

The true American HERO is the guy and gal who stands up to be counted.Must be non-violent. Speaks out against those things that they feel are wrong and unjust. Most especially if it is an unpopular view or if it makes others uncomfortable, and comes at great personal risk.

I may not agree with you, I may not even like you. I may even despise everything that you stand for but I, and many others, will fight to the death, lay down my life for your right to do so. Burn my flag, I don't care. Its just cloth. If someone tries to harm you, I will stop them. If, though, you try to harm anyone while expressing your views I will intervene with a measured reponse up to and including, deadly force.

Honor Courage Commitment

These are core values that represent any good man or woman.

I am, and remain yours in service,

Cole (who is just an average guy trying to raise his family);)

I've been wracking my brain an example of Great Americans. Took me while but I found it.

Do you remember the movie, The Magnificent Seven? Charles Bronson was a gunslinger and the little boys in the sleepy Mexican village all hero worshipped him and despised their fathers for being cowards. Old charlie flipped them over and paddled their behinds. He said that the real heroes were their fathers who grew corn, raised their family, took them to church and eeked out a living.

Examples;

My brother Rick. Seventh grade teacher in a little agricultural hamlet in the California Central Valley. Half of his students are the sons and daughters of immigrant farm laborers and barely speak english. He devotes countless hours helping them to succeed.

My brother Dennis. Mechanic. Lay church leader. Bear of a man. He and his wife are the kind that you want to raise 16 kids. Salt of the earth and would give you the shirt off his back.

My sister Betsy. Works in geriatric home. Helps our elders pass on, and their families to deal with it.

They represent, to me anyway, the values of good citizens. They work hard, raise families, pay taxes, are kind to strangers and save for the future. The real heroes are those who get up and face each day, knowing it will be exactly the same as yesterday, and exactly the same tomorrow, and still do it.

I like this passage from a letter written by Theodore Roosevelt to the president of the American Defense Society 1919.

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

A good American supports the government, or if not, atleast doesnt try to destroy it with bs.
A good American doesnt sue a freakin dry cleaners for mental distress for a pair of pants
A good American doesnt try to undermine the government for personal gain.
A good American doesnt lie about their taxes.
A good American doesnt oppose having illegal aliens become citizens, and have them pay taxes just like everyone else
A good American doesnt gripe at American soldiers for going thousands of miles away, to keep everyone here safe.....

Just my opinion of course. :)

There is the North American
The Central American
and the South American
Then there is the United States of America. (Americans?)

there are great and terrible people in all cultures.

Some do everything to stay employment to earn an honest living and provide for thier families lawfully and will treat their neighbor as they want to be treated.

Then there are people in every Culture that wouldn't do anything legal or humane to provide legally for their very own children or loved ones. If they really love them. They gain at the expence of their victims

Zoom,
If you were a Planet you would be Pluto, because your so far out there :) . This thread is to find out what people think are the qualities are for a "Good American". If I wanted to know what people thought about Central Americans, That would have been the title. DUH:D I think That citizens of the United States of America are the only ones regulary refered to as Americans. Much like Citizen of Mexico are refered to as Mexicans. And yes we are all North Americans. To be honest I don't give to peanut filled craps What it takes to be anything else but a Good American. I'm going to chaulk up your post to "Lost in Translation" If you have a question on what this Thread is about try PM'ing Infidel Racing.
