I was just informed that the Outdoor Channel which covers the Desert Racing series cancelled the coverage for 2008.

That was the only reason I added the Outdoor Channel to my Dish TV subscription.

Does anyone know if any other company will be covering the races ??

If not, I think we should all e-mail the Outdoor Channel with our dissapointment and concerns.

I just read the BITD post, sounds good.

The only bummer is it said only cars and truck, so I guess no Quad and MC coverage like the outdoor channel did.

Thats not awesome that they excluded the MC and quads. Its good they will be still covering SOME offroad though. Its a shame that the other forms of desert racing have been excluded. I guess its better than nothing.

New TV Package Offered for 2008

Best In The Desert is proud to announce we have a new and exciting TV package offered for 2008. We are on a new network, a new production company, a new producer, director and executive producer. Click on "read more" for more details and to find out how you and your sponsors can be included in this great 2008 TV show.

Hello, Racers:

We have an exciting new television package for 2008 including a new network, a new production company, a new producer, director and executive producer.

Our new producer has extensive experience with both SPEED and ESPN and we’re delighted to have him on board. Many of you will know him as one of the top producer/directors in off-road racing over the past decade.

Beginning with the Parker “425,” Best in the Desert events will be televised with unprecedented coverage featuring fourteen cameras and a complete crew complement, many of whom have major network experience. The entire season will be tape delayed and broadcast as a consistent weekly series (most likely from September through December, pending contract details). The Best in the Desert broadcast is scheduled to be in 21 million homes by year’s end.

Two programs will be drawn from each race. A one-hour show will be dedicated to the cars, with another one-hour show reserved for the trucks at each event.

Each program will give a solid overview of the event while highlighting a few selected race teams. The broadcast will follow the featured teams, tell the story of their race and, of course, recognize their sponsors. To become one of the highlighted teams in an upcoming broadcast, call the executive producer at (317-590-3495).

On-board cameras are also available this season with guaranteed airtime within the show. Nearly half of our on-board cameras were scooped up before the season began, so please call quickly if you would like an on-board camera in an upcoming race (317-590-3495). Please have dash decals ready so we can help you promote your sponsors.

The broadcast team is anxious to work with each of you and we’re looking forward to a great season. See you at Parker!

Best,
Stephen Cox

In the press release it says the new producer has worked with espn and speed. It doesn't say that is the channels it will be on. I'm not trying to sound like a jerk, just wondering if those are really the channels it will be on.

THE RACE WILL NOT BE ON ESPN AND SPEED. They are finalizing their contract with the network so I can't say anything yet. There will be a release coming from the producer very soon.

That sucks. They need to start showing more quads and MC. The little guy is just as important as the big guy. Speed will only show the big guys with the big bucks.

If it's on Pinned, are people outside of San Diego and Vegas going to be able to see it?

This is not a Pinned Broadcast. Much, much larger. I think we will all have a shot at it respective to where we live.

The press release so far says that it will be on a channel that (paraphrasing) "will be in 21 million homes by the end of '08"....While that sounds like a lot...it has to be a pretty small channel...The "Outdoor Channel" was available in 31 million homes as of 12/07...so its going to be a smaller channel than that....Most of us will be lucky to see it...

As of 2 weeks ago this was going to one of the sports channels, like Fox Sports which is good and bad. The good is that Fox Sports is huge and every market in the US has a channel in their area. The bad is that each area gets to pick whether they air a certain series or show so there is no guarentee of where it will be seen or when, it could be filler at 2am or prime time at 8pm it is up to each market.
