Two Roads to The Taupo 1000

I never heard of this race until I saw an ad for it today durring the Barret Jackson on tv. They are putting it on Speed Channel on friday Jan 25. Seems very cool.

It is being called the "toughest off road race south of the equator".

Any of you guys ever entered this thing or plan on doing it? I would really like to learn more about it.

Check out the link below.

Ryan (I thought it was Rhys) Millen and the other FJ Cruiser dood that was on "Two Roads To Baja" are both racing.

Here is a good link with all sorts of good info and other links:

On the other side of the World this race has the same appeal and prestiege as the 1000. It gets a lot of celebs and racers from other series taking part. It is also a little more open to vehicles, kinda a cross between WRC, SCORE and Dakar.

Sorry to drag up an old thread. An unassociated search tagged this thread.
Anyway. I competed in the last (bi-annual) 2007 Taupo 1000 in my Class 5 (1300cc buggy). Next Taupo 1000, in 2009, I'll be dragging my twin turbo Jimco to attempt an overall win.

It's a two day event with 9 laps of a varied terrain course to make up 500km each day. The course is a good mix of very tight forestry, open straight dirt roads, the odd jump, small sections of whoops and a spectator pleasing short course section.

A very rudimentary website is held at www.taupo1000.co.nz

There are insentives to foriegn (to NZ) entries, and I think you'll find it cheaper to compete in NZ than the Baja events.
