(Malibu, CA, Oct. 11, 2002) – With back flip insanity sure to break out, Reno Riders, led by X Games Silver Medallist, Drake “DMC” McElroy, headline an extraordinary field of the best and biggest names in freestyle motocross at this exclusive X Games qualifier, the ESPN Moto-X Championships, presented by MX Superfly, as well as Uni, MXMachine Magazine and the US Marine Corps.

Fans can expect to see a number of riders busting out the amazing, heart-stopping, socket-popping big-gap back flip pioneered by the Mike "The Godfather" Metzger as all the riders walk the tightrope between insanity and gravity while competing for critical X Games qualifying points.

Among these adrenaline airmen will be 18-year-old Robert Felli, coming up from Australia just for this event, and sponsored by FreestyleMTX.com, the youngest rider ever to perform the backflip -- once thought impossible -- and he's reportedly pulling back flip no-footers to no handed landings! The rumor mill is also working overtime about a number of other riders said to be ready to bust the inverted flip in Reno, along with other new tricks, including potentially the next holy grail in the sport, the body varial.

"One thing you can count on is surprise and innovation," commented Paul Taublieb, president of Moto-X Co, promoter of the event, "Progression, authenticity and pushing the envelope are the hallmarks of the ESPN Moto-X series, and we do that in a way no other series can match. And for this event we're adding elements to our course that no one has ever seen before."

Sanctioned by the WFA, official sanctioning body of the Moto-X series and the X Games, riders will be competing in the disciplines of Freestyle, Big Air and the Step Up. The world class field will include Brian Deegan of the Metal Mulisha, “Mad” Mike Jones, Tommy “Tomcat” Clowers, Ronnie “Who’s Your Daddy” Renner, WFA World Champion Nate Adams, Kenny “The Cowboy” Bartram, Caleb Wyatt (first ever to land a backflip), Clifford “The Flyin’ Hawaiian” Adoptante, Ronnie “Kung Fu” Faisst and more -- all taking on Reno riders led by McElroy and hot newcomers Kenny Bell, Derek Berlew, Matt Buyten, and Brian Foster. (Riders subject to change.)

“For this event we're going back outside to build a big challenging course with some new elements that will move the sport to the next level," added Tes Sewell, Exec VP of Moto-X Co. “The Alamo Travel Center is also bringing in a full compliment of bleachers and VIP section for what promises to be a rocking, sellout crowd.”

This is the first stop of the series to crown the 2003 WFA World Champion, with the cherished world title belt to be handed out at the 2003 X Games. Stop number two is in Bakersfield, CA, Nov. 15-16, 2002 at Mesa Marin Speedway.

Points from these two events, along with WFA Wild Card voting for eligible riders, will determine the field for the Winter X Games, to be held in January, 2003 in Aspen, CO., and points will contribute towards qualifying for Summer X 2003 (with previous years' Gold medal winners receiving automatic invites to both events.). Qualification guidelines and other information is available under the WFA section of www.motoxco.com. The full ESPN Moto-X schedule for 2003 will also be announced shortly.

"The X Games are the Superbowl of the sport," added Taublieb, "and we're thrilled that our series is fortunate enough to be able to contribute to that incredible event and brand, which are undisputedly preeminent in the entire world of action sports."

For Reno, advance ticket pricing is $25 for VIP Seating (no discounts available for VIP seating). General Admission tickets are $20 and tickets for children 12 years and younger are $15.
