8.8 swap

I have a '94 2.3 5 spd ranger that is a 4X2. I can get my hands on a 8.8 from a '98 ranger for about $200. I was wondering if it would be a direct bolt up r would I need to do some tweaking. I was also wondering if a '98 would have disc brakes or if they are still drums like my ranger? Thanks.

I would say get a newer explorer rear end with discs 98 or newer I think maybe 95 not sure.

Call John at ajax auto in Coachella, Ca he has them for I think 600.00 with the rear discs. I will try and dig up his number for you.

Driveshaft flange bolt patern on an 8.8 has a bigger diameter, need the 8.8 drive shaft end.

All rangers from 94 up had the same pinion flange diameter whether they had an 8.8 or 7.5. Pre 94 trucks w/ the 4.0 had the larger pinion flange then the non 4.0 (non 8.8) But, after 94 ALL the rangers were stepped up to the larger flange. So, as long as your ranger is a 94 your driveshaft will bolt up. Steve
