The Hemet based Dondels tested their new lightweight Nye Frank built Trophy Truck on Wednesday 9/18 in Lucerne Valley.
The truck is powered by a Patton built Chevy engine and is all wheel drive. It gets traction through the 37'' BFGs mounted on Gordon wheels with bead locks, the truck is suspended on Nye Frank built water cooled bypass air shocks and deleivers the power to the BFGs through the C.O.R.E. proven all wheel drive unit that Nye developed for Rob MacCachren's pro 4 that won championships, It is a mid engine truck with independent suspension on all for corners.
The test went great with speed runs in the upper 130's. The trucks cooling system allmost worked to good as it was tough to build up heat in the fluids at first. With just a few air presure changes and bypass tube adjustments on the shocks, the Dondels felt right at home in their new truck. The test was problem free all day so now its back at Nye Franks to inspect and prepair for some long distant sustained runs.
Mike and Dale feel very good about their new truck and even at this early stage of development feel it well be very strong in the ever growing Trophy Truck class.(As you may recall the Dondel's won this years Laughlin race in a V-6 Bonnerhawk chevy powered Nye Frank built class one car with times that would have won in the Trophy Truck class.) The Dondels feel that this truck is much faster and easier to drive than thier old class one car.
Look for it to make its big race start at the 2003 Laughlin race.
