Since May of 2000, United Prerunners (formerly Inland Prerunners) has been the largest and most active organization dedicated to providing primarily street-driven desert truck owners with events specifically for them, such as monthly meetings, jump competitions, and last December’s Sand Bast time trial race, which brought out nearly 60 racers and over 1,000 spectators.

Now United Prerunners has big news for the offroad community! Construction has begun on a 50+ acre race facility in Rialto which will be host to a number of events for prerunners, pro racers and everything in-between. The course will be designed by offroaders, for offroaders, with a premium spectator area so no one misses any action and advice on course layout being offered by some top short course and desert racers.

The Rialto Offroad Raceway’s inaugural event will be Dirt Day, October 12, 2002. The time trial event will host 6 different classes, including 3 prerunner/desert truck classes, a sand car class, a desert car class, and a HP class. Also scheduled are some exhibition races with surprise offroad superstars racing head to head.

For 2003, a prerunner time-trial series is planned, as well as a pro race series. The date for an open forum will be announced this winter and racers are encouraged to attend and voice an interest in classes they’d like to see.

Here’s what some people are saying about the Rialto Offroad Raceway:

“The new Rialto Raceway gives West Coast racers an alternative to traveling to Wisconsin. It’ll be nice to have a place where our high horsepower trucks can compete in our own backyards. I look forward po seeing what the schedule for 2003 has to offer.”
-Curt LeDuc, CORR Pro 4 racer and Offroad Legend

“The course provides both desert and short course elements, making it an ideal location for both kinds of racers to race and test.”
-Pete Albano, shock guru, experienced racer/fabricator, and course designer

“With varying terrain and optional course layouts, we’re hoping this track will be a big part of the future of offroad. We have a place where beginners can come and hone their skills in time trial races and where experienced racers have a premium place to race.”
-Greg Gagnon, co-founder of United Prerunners and course designer

“We’re hoping this venture will provide other promoters with a place they can include in their series. We want to offer something different than your typical desert or short course style course. By combining the best of both worlds in a spectator-friendly environment, we hope to appeal to racers and prerunners alike.
-Jen Coleman, co-founder of United Prerunners

“I think this is the greatest gawd-damned thing to happen since they shut down Glen Helen!”
-Jim Hall, James Gang Racing

United Prerunners, a grassroots organization, will be relying heavily on the support of its nearly 300 members and the continued support of the offroad industry to make their dream a reality.
