Watch the build on this new 2007 Toyota Tundra 5.7L 4x4 truck. The all new Toyota Tundra is awesome to say the least. Everything on this new truck is HUGE! Only a few months away is the 40th SCORE Baja 1000. The crew at Camburg Engineering thought what a great way to showcase and test some new products... 1200 miles, 40 hours, of the most brutal desert in the world! This truck will start in the afternoon on Tuesday and finish Thursday morning. That's right we will leave the start line around 3 in the afternoon Tuesday, drive through the night, all day and night Wednesday then cross the finish line Thursday mid morning. Sound like fun? This is what testing is all about.

Very nice, I was wondering how to weld the entire cage. Now I know how I need to do mine when the build starts, just cut the cab off and then weld it back on when I am done with the inner cage.
As usual nice work.

Then how possibly would you weld all the way around the tubes?
I am sure you could drop the cage down somehow but after welding, things always move. therefore cut the cab off and leave all of the fabricated cage in tact and in place as designed and fabricated and cut the cab off and then weld in place. That way any movement is kept to a minimum.
Is this theory correct Jerry?

Most people cut holes in the floor and drop it down.

To be honest with you cutting the roof off is very quick and very easy and allows us to make NO compromises with the cage design. If you saw this cage in person its not something that easily drops down since we're hitting both the top and sides of the frame with alot of cross bracing. Once the truck is painted you'll never know the roof ever came off. It would be way more work patching up the holes in the floor to drop the cage down than to have the roof off and on.
Like I said its the method we prefer with this design.

Great thing about cutting the roof off is you can have 100% perfect notches with no sacrifice as its easily accessible and you can inspect your work much easier.

Here are a few new pictures of what we are up to. The cage is near complete and we have tied some tubes into the front area for frame support and shock mounts. The rear is in need of a few more tubes. The stock bumper is going to be bolted on and the front bumper will be mounted. I am trying to get the truck to Score tech on Thursday. Then mounting of shocks and paint. Wiring and plumbing is last then a good test session!

Jerry, I know in BITD it is legal to have the shocks come up through the bed on the rear end, but I thought in SCORE you still have to keep them in the stock locations underneath the bed? Also is it legal to have a secondary shock on the front end like you guys have set up?
Not trying to criticise, just had those questions. The truck looks good, I love the new Tundra's.

Just got back from the SCORE tech inspection and we are banded! Now we are cycling the suspension in the rear to set up the rear shock mounts for the BILSTEIN Blackhawks. We also added AN fittings to the fuel rails to hook up the fuel cell. We are getting close!

New updates..
Well after the tech inspection we were told to have 3 seats we would need to run diagonal tubes to support the b-pillars. Well this gave us a tight fit for the Beard seats since the head rest will be right against the diagonal tube. The right choice for this application is the Sparco Evo 2 seats. They give us 2" more clearance behind the seats and 2.5" to the side.
http://www.camburg.com/images/2007%20Tundra%20Race%20Truck%20build/9-7-07/sparco.jpghttp://www.camburg.com/images/2007%20Tundra%20Race%20Truck%20build/9-7-07/b-pilalr-tubes.jpg
The next thing we did was add more triangulation to the rear cage and build up the floor tubes. The truck is going into paint on Monday so we also added the roof billet center light bar mount as well as the side mounts for the light bar. The plan for now is to run 6 Hella HID lights on the light bar and 4 up front on the bumper.

What the hell you need that much light for on a stock full? lol j/k looks good Jerry. Just a thought. I have ridden in a truck with those seats before and they are nice but do not provide a lot of padding especially to the lower back and sides. It might be a rough long day with those in a truck with stock suspension.....

Interesting they made you guys run those diagnols off the B. We run 3 seats, with a similar cage and were not called out. Only thing i can see is the truck's extra being a bit longer. Build looks great.

I think you will be extremely happy with the Sparco Evo 2's, they just feel so much more comforting and indestructable....I have a Mastercraft office chair race seat and it just always feels better when i get in the sparco's and it isnt just cause their in the race truck haha....built looks amazing so far....

Jerry,
Are you guys completely ripping out the electronic stability control system? Or did your model not have it? How are you addressing that?
I was going to get back to you on that from the other board... Just unplug one of the abs sensors :)
We are taking out the whole ABS system and running new brake lines. The Stability control uses the abs system to pulse the brakes when you brake traction. Take out the system you don't worry about the effects.

Hey Jerry, was the body lift just used to clear the larger tires or were there more reasons for adding it? I didnt notice it earlier for some reason.
Jerry Zaiden
October 18th, 2007, 09:32
We will be racing the stock full class. So far the entry list is over 10 trucks! I am pretty sure we will be racing the KORE team, the Hummer team, etc...
Yes we are running a body lift. The reason for the body lift is per the rules we can't remove the inner fenders. This truck gets massive wheel travel and we needed tire clearance hence the body lift.
This truck will also be at the SEMA show October 30- November 2 in the AEM Power both.
I will post up a few more pictures of some new updates later today.
