Dear Racing Enthusiasts:

I would like to take this opportunity to familiarize everyone of the proposed expansion to the Parker off-road racing season. At the request of the Parker Area Chamber of Commerce and The Tourism Committee, Casey Folks, Race Director for Best In The Desert Racing Association, delivered a proposal to the Chamber requesting support for an off-road race in our community! The Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, in their letter of support, granted Best In The Desert a conditional agreement, based upon favorable post event reviews each year. The Tourism Committee provided a letter of support for Best In The Desert, as well as the La Paz County and The Town of Parker, all in support of Best In The Desert.

Best In The Desert has filed the necessary land use permit requests with The Colorado River Indian Tribes and The Bureau of Land Management.

The decision to support Best In The Desert to participate with the Parker Community stemmed from business leaders in our community involved with off-road racing. These community people asked Mr. Folks if he would be interested in a Parker race. Mr. Folks scheduled a trip to Parker and asked if he could see the race- course and be introduced to the entities involved in the race. The Chamber and Tourism assisted in the request.

The Chamber’s decision to move forward with Mr. Folks is significant, given the history of the event and the love of off-road racing in Parker. When presented with the opportunity to return to top tier racing, many factors were addressed.

As most of you are aware, Parker has worked with several promoters over the years. Parker’s long and storied history in off-road racing is unquestionable and undeniable. The race has stood the test of time, having first been raced before most of today’s rising stars were even born! The time has come for Parker’s return to top self off-road racing that made the Score Parker “400” so successful in the past.

The Chamber of Commerce places very high expectations on our race promoters, whether it is off-road racing, boat racing or bike racing. The Chamber of Commerce found Best In The Desert to have the character references that measure up. Mr. Folks promotes the things that Parker tenaciously advocates – competitive racing, professionalism, accountability, fairness, respect, preparation, and timely communication.

Ivan Stewart has committed to bringing his PROTRUCK Racing Organization to the Parker “425” with Best In The Desert. Both Best In The Desert and The Chamber are in contact with the Class 1 coalition, the Class 1600 coalition and several Trick Truck racing teams. Best In The Desert is known for attracting a very large field of cars and trucks, as well as the top racing teams in the sport, whether it be cars, trucks, motorcycles or quads. Best In The Desert is already spending money advertising and promoting Parker, the KTM Parker "250", a Motorcycle, Quad and Mini-Motorcycle/Quad race, and The Blue Water Resort & Casino Parker "425" for Cars and Trucks! Sponsorship is not yet totally finalized but nevertheless, Best In The Desert is promoting Parker and OUR race out of Mr. Folks pocket because he respects our community and believes in our Parker event.

Best In The Desert is planning several coordinated events around “The Legend Lives On,” which is the theme for the proposed Blue Water Resort & Casino Parker "425". There will be several “vintage” race vehicles on display for our opening party Thursday night at the Blue Water Resort & Casino. In addition to the race vehicles that raced Parker in the 70’s and 80’s, legendary drivers from off-road racing will also be celebrating their return to Parker, such as Ivan “Ironman” Stewart, Parnelli Jones, Walker Evans, Rod Hall, Manny Esquerra, and KJ Howe, just to name a few! Everyone is invited to join in meeting past heroes and new champions alike. It will be a very special evening that will kick off a great weekend for all racers and fans.

Contingency Row will be as large or larger than ever before. Best In The Desert has invited the FORD Sports Vehicle Tour, Toyota Motorsports, and GM Special Vehicle display to Contingency. These are the displays that the manufacturers use at auto shows to showcase special vehicles and concept cars. Every major manufacturer and supplier of goods and services relating to racing will be invited to attend. Best In The Desert expects a huge spectator turnout for the KTM Parker "250" and the Blue Water Resort & Casino Parker "425", because they are opening up the Shea Road and Osborne Wash areas for spectators.

The Chamber has always been the lead in the Parker off-road race, and now again, the Chamber brings to Parker the Best In The Desert! Plan on a very exciting week with many special attractions and events to celebrate the return of top tier off-road racing to Parker!

Sincerely,

Jerry McGuire
Executive Director
Parker Area Chamber of Commerce
