“The Gun Shoots Down the Competition to Take the Richest Desert Race in the United States”
Parker, AZ – Going into the weekend of July 13, 2002, Parker, Arizona native Jim Beaver was ranked 3:1 to take the win at the Inaugural SCORE Henderson Terrible’s 250. With the odds in his favor to take the victory in the ever competitive class 8 division, the gun did not let down. Son of 27 year SCORE off road veteran Dan Beaver, Jim bested the field by some 18 minutes over 2nd place and set the fast lap of the day in his class.
Jim, who has honed his skills in the class 8 ranks, has won off road events in the past, just never a SCORE sanctioned event. Going into Saturday’s event, not only was this the inaugural SCORE race in Henderson, but it was also Jim’s inaugural SCORE race.
“Winning a SCORE event was always something that I have wanted to do, and winning it my first time out was really something special,” said Jim. “SCORE, Henderson, and The Herbst put on a great event, but without my PMC Racing crew and co riders I would have never won. The pit stops were perfect, as well as my co rider’s calls. On top of that my Goodyear Wranglers were flawless, and I didn’t have one flat on the roughest course I have ever run on.”
With the race being run in temperatures over 115 degrees and on one of the most rugged courses SCORE has run in years, most competitors opted to share driving duties with a partner. Jim battled through the extreme heat and dehydration that plagued many of the drivers, and went solo the entire event, doing all 250 miles on his own.
Jim Beaver, who will move up to the premier Trophy Truck division in 2003 in the #15 Ford Lightning entry, would like to thank all of his sponsors who made this victory possible: Goodyear Tires, Tube Service Co., King Shocks, MSD Ignition, RLH Communications, RiverInfo.com, Parker Motor Co., Autozone, Penn Sign Co., La Paz Pest, and the Kofa Inn. Any sponsorship inquiries, or anyone wanting further information on Jim Beaver or PMC Racing, can contact them through JimmyBeaver.com or 1-800-266-2291.
