I had a quick question about this picture attached below-notice the head rest of the seat that is hanging out of the rear frame rail. Although it is technically out of the car, will it still pass a SCORE inspection? The driver is still well protected-just curious.....

That is a tough call from that pic. Not sure if the cage itself is 100% legal, again hard to see in the pic. The best thing you can do is contact SCORE's tech director Bill Savage: 760/599-1013 or Email, tech@score-international.com . Take more pics and know what tubing is used (OD, wall thickness, type[4130 or DOM]) and Bill should be able to help. Worse case Bill is in Vista so you could just bring the car to him.

I think there was a circumferential head clearance for all tubes in the 2004 rule book.

If you have any doubts Tech probally wont pass it. Also imagine in the event of a barrell roll your head is going to be pinned against the support tube. In the picture your head is in front of the tube but add a couple of inchs for the helmet could be bad. If the seat is too large for the space maybe try a sparco? Try to PM DUMP!

The material is legal-100% 4130. 1 1/2 .095 with .120 wall A and B pillars. I am certain everything is legal, HOWEVER, I am unsure if that seat head rest is. This is a bad picture, I know, I will get some more and put them back up. This thing is still on the Jig table-a little difficult to take it to Bill right now. I wanted to check up on it though before mounting the seats-don't want to have to do any back track work on the project. As for circumference around the helmet area-we have about 3-4 inches of space, so no contact with the tubes.

3-4" is not a ton of room. I would make sure to keep some Advil handy and make sure to have the belts super tight. I can try to post pic of my helmet to show you how I know. :) The tight area you are working with might be better suited to a seat like ASHCRAFT pointed out above.
This caused me to look at the SCORE rules and now I am confused... Nothing new..LOL
Here is the cage rule that I don't understand (see text in blue):
Roll Cage Design
All roll cages must be constructed with at least one (1) front
hoop (top of cage to floor), one (1) rear hoop (top of cage to floor), or two (2) lateral hoops, two (2) interconnecting top bars, two (2) rear down braces and one (1) diagonal brace and necessary gussets, see Figure 1. If front and/or rear hoop terminate at elbow/door bar, lower A-pillar and/or B-pillar must be made of same tubing size as roll cage. Upper main, front, rear, and lateral rollbar hoops must be made in one piece without joints. Centerlines of all required tubes must converge at intersections.
How can the A, B and side hoops all be one piece? I see how 2 of them can be but how can all 3? What am I not understanding?
Is the upper windshield bar/A pillar on the car pictured above legal? It is the way I would do it so I would like to know.

A and B dont have to be one piece. I called Bill at SCORE and asked him about this one and he said you're welcome to sleeve it at the back of the pillar where the down kickers start.
Lothringer, Jimco, Curry, etc. all do this and the cars pass fine. SCORE tech does not pay attention to that portion.
