Post-Race Quotes
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

SCORE Trophy-Truck
Mark Post (vehicle no. 3): "I could feel I was losing water because my hands
were kind of tingly. The truck was awesome - it was just a real tough
course. On the last lap I saw Troy (Herbst) pulled over and I said 'Whoa!'
Then two miles later I saw Timmy (Herbst). We had five flats today - I had
one. We were catching Chuck (Hovey) and we got a flat on the last lap."

Jerry Welchel (3): "We knew not all the cars were going to make it. We went
and tested it in Barstow for the heat - it did fine. We got it ready for the
heat, our only problem was a few flat tires. We probably spent eight to 10
minutes fixing flats. Otherwise, we would have gotten first overall, but
Chuck (Hovey) ran a perfect race. That's what we were trying to do, but it
didn't quite work out that way."

Tim Herbst (19): "Ed (Herbst) started and did three laps - he did a good job
getting ahead of traffic. We lost the power steering and rear pinion. We
drove in on just the front wheels. I had one flat - everything just fell
apart in the last lap and a half."

Ed Herbst (19): "It's amazing that we had six flats in the first three laps
and we're still leading. The truck was just running amazingly. I think we
all underestimated how tough this course really was."

Class 1
Chuck Hovey (105): "It feels soooo good. My crew chief told me to just kind
of take it easy, that the heat was going to take its toll. The last lap my
power steering and alternator were going out. And boy was I thirsty that
last lap. I didn't know if I would have caught them (the three riders in
front of him starting the last lap) if they didn't have any problems."

Protruck
Steve Barlow (299): "I drove solo. The only problem I had was with my
carburetor through the rock garden. I didn't have any flats. I pitted every
lap and kept hydrated. It was rocky and rough but good. It was so hot I
blistered my heels on the floorboard and had to put on sandals."

Class 10
Chris Harrold (1010): "The first three laps I was just on cruise control
because it was so hot. On the first lap I pulled over at 'C' to put water on
it. It cooled off a bit but then got hot again. I asked if we should stop
because it was so hot but they (his crew) said just take it easy. After
three laps I decided that the temp was stable so I started pushing it. We
had no flats. I ran off the course on the first lap but luckily had no
damage. I'm glad we didn't quit this thing. We almost pulled the plug twice
on Wednesday and again on Thursday. When we tried it Friday, though, we felt
like it was running okay, so we said we'd try it."

Class 8
Jim Beaver (801): "I went solo, and am very dehydrated. I broke my header
but nothing really went wrong. The Goodyear tires were awesome - I had no
flats."

Class 7S
Jarred Hardin (723): "We each did two laps - things went really good. The
oil line was loose but we fixed it and we only had one flat tire. The
headlights broke so we watched the lightning all over the course. Eric did
all the work. We pitted every lap and only stayed less than a minute."

Class 1/2-1600
Kash Vessels (1606): "I drove solo, and had no power steering for the last 20
miles. It was hot and dusty - I stopped for water every lap. I had no flats
- BFG tires are the best."

SCORE Lite
Mike Voyles (1205): "The first lap was real dusty. I overshot a turn around
mile marker 45, but didn't have any damage. On lap two I broke a front coil
and had to limp it in."

Dave Mason (1205): "Our new sponsor, RSC, which is also a SCORE sponsor, was
a huge help. We lost by about three minutes. On the last lap our fuel pump
got turned off. It was fast driving but you had to be on your toes."

Class 9
Eric Fisher (949): "I went solo and my first lap, mile 10, I broke the left
shock. After four laps, around mile 45, I had one flat tire. That was it -
everything else went really good."

Class 11
Eric Solorzano (1100): "The first 25 miles it was very rough but after that
it was very fast. Around mile 40 it was very fast and technical. The faster
cars were very polite. The heat was our main competition, then the rocks.
If you break the car, you won't finish so you have to pace it."

Roman Pereyra (1100): "There was a lot of traffic and rocks when I drove the
second lap. It was very hard to navigate. We only tried to keep it steady,
and there were no problems."

Class 22
Steve Hengeveld (1X): "Johnny (Campbell) started and we split the riding
50/50. The course was really fun. It was a great course for Nevada - I'm
glad to be here. Our Honda XR650R worked really well on the course -it
suited us. The heat wasn't bad until after the alternate pits. There's no
wind there, it's just burning up. It's like a canyon with no wind. We went
back and forth on the lead a little bit. I crashed in the rock garden on the
fourth lap, but I went around Andy (Grider) on lap four."

Johnny Campbell (1X): "I had some good rides - I was consistent. We switched
every lap - that was the way to go today. The second time I got on was the
worst lap (lap three). It was just all dust because of the lappers. Andy
got by me and I said 'Whoops!' Luckily Steve went out and did an awesome
job on the fourth lap. I started my career racing with SCORE and have been
with them for over 10 years - I'm glad to be here."

Russell Pearson (9X): "It was too hot to try and do two laps. The heat
didn't really bother me until the last wave. Danny (Cooper) was dehydrated -
he went down on the fourth lap. The bike ran good - no real problems. One
lap I caught a quad and it was just a sea of dust."

Ty Davis (9X): "The course was broken up nice. There were some smooth parts
and some rough stuff."

Danny Cooper (7X): "Andy (Grider) started the race and did the third lap - I
did the other three laps. When I took off I was leading. We were going at
it with them (Hengeveld and Campbell) and I hit a rock in the rock garden in
lap four. I got into the pit and they told me that Andy was hurt from his
fall on lap three and that he needed stitches. I ended up having to go the
last two laps and I got a little dehydrated."

Class 40
Jon Ortner (400X): "I solo'd it because Jim (O'Neal) is hurt. Obviously I
had to go farther than I expected to. It got pretty warm out there. My lips
are dry and my eyes are burning. The bike help up pretty good, but I
couldn't hold it wide open - it wouldn't last. I had to go three-quarters
throttle."

Class 21
Eddie Deanes (103X): "We were behind by two minutes, but we put time on them
(Eddie Zeller, 101X). On the straightaways they were faster but I think they
had a rear flat, but that shouldn't have taken six minutes to change. On the
third lap I crashed and broke a bone in my right wrist. It is so hot out our
stickers are coming off. We've had three DNFs this year, but our Alba bike
held together."

Carlos Medina (103X): "That was one of the roughest courses I've seen. The
BLM did a great job though - everything went smooth and the course was well
marked. It seemed to get a lot hotter after 10. I struggled trying to
concentrate and save some energy."

Class 25
John Gregory (1A): "I think we led on time the whole way. Physically we got
ahead on the third lap. We had no problems, just one flat, it was
gas-and-go. Doug (Eichner) is a better starter, so he started, then we just
took it lap-by-lap. I did laps two and five."

Doug Eichner (1A): "Something punctured our tire - it wasn't a rock, it was
something sharp. I felt really good and the bike ran well. On my second
consecutive lap I just picked a smooth line and tried to ride my race. It
was just all mental."
