I just wanted to post some progress on a project that started about 2 months ago. We are building this truck for our new Site www.DezertTV.com it is a project truck and we have shot 3 full build segments so far with more to come. AM Suspensions from Riverside is doing ALL of the custom work and here is the list of sponsors;

Sway-Away
Fiberwerx
ATX
Toyo Tires
PRP Seats
Jaz Products
Optima
Downey
Deaver Springs
Giant Motorsports
Eibach Springs
Piaa

The truck is going to be our primary production vehicle, the goal was to create a capable vehicle but not lose the luxury amenities of a stock vehicle. Thanks for checking it out.

Here are more of the bed cage. It is designed to keep as much space as possible and still fit a full size dirt bike.

We are running a 18 inch Sway-Away Triple Bypass, Deaver's, and Giant shackle. It is cycling 18 inches.

The taquito looks great. How do you like the FiberWerx front conversion? Tryin to decide if I should stay 3 piece for the modular-thing, or go one-piece for my future race truck.

Did you find a decent price for the lights? I don't think anyone make aftermarket 07+ Taco lights yet?

Thanks

Sorry for the late reply I have been pretty wrapped up in getting the site up.

I love the front clip. I think if you are going to use it for a race application it is much easier to deal with then 3 different peaces. And you can get the lights fairly cheap on ebay.

As for the Billet upper UCA's I would give the guys at AM suspensions a call and see what they would charge.

More Updates. The rear of the truck is done now. The weld and plating work on the rear of this truck is nothing like I have ever seen All I can Say is WOW!

Check out the site for more on the build.

Part 2 and 3 of the build will be up next month.

It has been a little bit since I have updates this thread, but major progress has been made. AM suspensions has finished all of the front suspension, and major fabrication on this project. The pictures do not do there work justice...TOP NOTCH! Everything on the truck was designed perfectly and executed with perfection.

The most recent update was getting it down to Ryan Middelton of Line-x Imperial valley/ High-n-low motorsports for the line-x. Ryan did an amazing job working his magic around all of the tubes in the bed cage. The liver came out amazing.

Everyone has been putting in some long hours and nights getting this truck ready for our booth at the off-road expo. The truck is currently with the Fiberwerx crew getting paint and then Finally to Bink Designs for graphics.

You can see every stage of this build on www.DezertTV.com along with much much more!!

Guys, this truck is sick! Flynn at AM Suspensions gets it done! Absolutely amazing work all the way around (especially the Line-X Spray-On Truck Bedliner)!!! hahaha. For sure though this truck is well put together and thought out.
Robert, we were stoked that you and Flynn could come down and hang out for a late night Truck Spray. I know that you guys were digg'n the Special Quesadilla's and tacos. Everybody is gonna bust a gut watch'n the Ice Cream Man Section...stay tuned for that!!!! You guys are welcome to come down and hang out anytime. Don't forget that Glamis Night Run we're putt'n together soon. Looks like I gotta find another spot on the side panels of my F-150 for a DEZERT T.V. sticker. We just got the truck back from Bink Design and Fiberwerx and WOW. The work is amazing, Fiberwerx applied the custom paint that Bink Designs laid out and then Bink applied the final graphics and decals for the off-Road Expo. The truck will make its debut this weekend at Off-Road Expo in Pomona. We will be in Building #7 Booth 7203. Also, the front shock tower will need to be replaced as it is cracked and bent at both sides. It was a temporary tower for the expo and like a bone head I was to hard on the truck...

We will be doing a full custom Aluminum Dash at Twisted Tin and today some goodies arrived:

Looks perfect with the 33s. I was afraid with the large front clip that 33s would look silly, but I really don't want to run 35s...just for weight/clearance issues....just for 1" ground clearance.

Are you just using a reinforced junk-yard housing, or going with a new Currie/Strange housing.

This is the time to link it!:D Cantilever shock setup under the bed! You can doo it!

LOL YEah the thought has crossed my mind. I want to see how well I can get the rear to work now with the leafs though.

The housing is a stock Toyota 7.5 oh and it is all bent to hell now. So I am working on getting a Ford 9 to replace it with.

The front shock tower was just quickly made and not really designed to take abuse. I was a little hard on the truck out of the gate and it just crushed the joint were the cross support and the shocks meet. We knew it was going to have to be re-done.

Nice!

It would then be cool to run a couple tubes from the bottom of the cross-tube...down to the frame somehow. Of course it goes right through where your feet go. I guess the more typical thing for prerunners is to run the engine cage tubes to the cross bar, and pick up strength that way.

Can't wait to see the rest of the cage sections!

I notice you are still running the stock Toyota hubs on a custom spindle. How did you achieve that? Was a new spindle machined that the bearings could seat on? Or the stock one pressed out of the factory knuckle? I am trying to do something very similar and I am struggling to get started because of this part. I am torn between trying to press it out of a stock knuckle, machine it myself, or have a few sets machined for present and future use. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

So are you saying you cut the stock cast spindle away? Did it look similar to this?
http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/8223/p1010160ss2.jpg

The way I see it there is a cast knuckle, and a steel spindle. On the backside it looks like the spindle is pressed into the knuckle. I am just trying to figure out the best way to remove it. I have access to a 50 ton Dake, but I don't want to destroy the part I want to save. How exactly did you cut the spindle away?

Sorry for all the questions. I have been thinking about this on my own for over a month. I am probably just over thinking it.

The stock hub was cut out and then welded back into this spindle. In this application I am not sure that it could have been pressed out.
Why in the world did you reuse the stock 2WD spindle and hub when you guys obviously spent so much time new spindles and arms? Why not at least go with stock 4WD parts?

I am sure that since the 4x's are 6 lugs, that might have something to do with it.....just a thought...

Thanks.

So are you saying you cut the stock cast spindle away? Did it look similar to this?

The way I see it there is a cast knuckle, and a steel spindle. On the backside it looks like the spindle is pressed into the knuckle. I am just trying to figure out the best way to remove it. I have access to a 50 ton Dake, but I don't want to destroy the part I want to save. How exactly did you cut the spindle away?

Sorry for all the questions. I have been thinking about this on my own for over a month. I am probably just over thinking it.

50 tons would be enough. Just thread 3 hub nuts onto the shank and lock them in place about a 1/16" from the end of the snout and press away. I don't advise using ANY heat either.

That's kind of a trivial thing though, and 5 on 4.5" is a passenger car lug pattern anyway.

The lug pattern is moot in regard to its uses. The spindle design looks like it would accept a bolt on snout from just about anything, if the time comes. I believe that that concept for this build was to show what can be done with the 5 lug trucks.

Atombomb you are right! The whole point to this build was to utilize the stock platform. Yes we could have very easily swapped out the lug pattern on the front and rear but we wanted to keep it a 5 lug and build from there.

Yes the snout looks like that and we cut away the stock cast spindle and machined the rest of the cast off all the way down, then built the spindle around that snout. We welded on the inside and other outside to get as much surface as possible. It is very stout and I have not had any issues yet. I will be sure to get full test results when the truck is 100% finished and we do some serious re-running.

The other reason for getting rid of the stock spindle was to remove the weird ball joint peace that the 5 lugs have and to get a more traditional setup. Much stronger this way too.
