Finally got cranking on the truck tonight after cutting it up the week after the 1000.

We did ALL of this today. Everything is 1 3/4 or 1 1/2 .120 wall 4130 and 4130 plate.

Tires, rims and rear end are just for mock up. Were going to run Kumho 35s or 37s on the new American Racing 17" Chamber beadlocks.

Camburg built the front end and is supplying the 3 link kit connected to a Currie 9 inch. Im sure Jerry etc. will chime in with more details and exact specs. Been a long night so heres some pictures.

More details about the truck will come soon.

Damn, all in 1 day? When I stopped by earlier I sort of laughed when Bob said there was plenty of time to get it ready for the 500. I guess at this rate that target won't be an issue.

I still can't figure out exactly what's been rig'd on the shifter to allow all of the fancy-schmancy electronics to work properly. Snap a pic of that, it's a work of art ;)

Very nice! I'm guessing the 3 link will be sporting 18" of travel. How much in the front?

Rear will have more than 18, low to mid 20s.

Front makes 20+, not sure until we do the steering.

Updates!

Rear will made around 26 for those wondering.

Sorry Jeff but no pics of our trick shifting system because its not connected at the moment. :(

Dual battery box with max dimple dies. Cut the back of the cab to clearance the cell which fits snug with about 1/4 inch on either side. Fully plated the frame on both sides and got more triangulation done. Blurry link pic. Tool boxes originally went behind both front seats, but were going to put them between both spares. That area will be boxed and they’re going be mounted inside, another tight fit. The lid will flip up and have the jack mounted on top.

More updates.

Firewall bead rolled and almost there. Cheese grater dual battery box. Cell and coolers mounted. Tool box/contingency beer cooler nearly done. More tubes.

As per Jeff's request, pic of our paddle shifter that works with the gate shifter on the 5 speed.

Were going to panel around the coolers so all the air from the cab has to flow through them. Our rear view mirror is going to be a rear facing camera with a 150 degree view displayed on a 5 or 6 inch screen on the dash.

Hey taylor. I dont if you have heard but I bought 71 baja bug and went over there to bajashop to talk about a cage and to Bob. We talked to Bob about the 500, about Brady and us doing it in the new lothringer 10 car but it wont be ready. And Bob says it will be ready so you might be seeing us down there in the next few weeks. The truck looked great and Blaus didnt even have time to talk he was so busy:p . I heard that this week they were getting some things like the new rear end gears etc. The best thing though was looking at Bobs TO DO list. You have to post a picture of that. See you around.

New updates.

Just started mocking up the 4 link system, ditched the 3 link idea. 2.5 coilover and 3.0 triple bypass. More paneling done than shown in the pictures including beadrolling every panel, but still a lot to go. Got the Currie 9 inch today. Going to mount the brake light LEDs in the glass, ambers between the tires in the panels.

Going to be some long nights trying to make the 500 and dealing with finals.

PS. Whats going on with Horners truck in the new "room"(i heard he owes bob money?). It sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the tighty titan.

Back from the dead! Rear shock mounts are 90% done. Officially a 3 link now and the wishbone is on the table being finished. Back half is just about done other than some changes to the spare set up/tool box to allow for 37s. :D

LOL maybe Primm?

That would be a nice birthday ride for me (20 on the 12th) but the front hasnt been touched. Rear is about done but the front has a big obstacle in mounting the Howe system and shooting all new tubes, wiring, plumbing etc.

Why don't we just treat it like the week before the 1000 and have everybody at the shop all night.... :p . Happy early 20th.

Class 8. I know, I know its not a true 8 truck built from the frame up but it still has a good shot of being competitive. Wheel travel is there at 22" up front and 28" in the back. The motor isnt built to the hilt but it makes decent HP and its backed up by a 5 speed rather than a 3 etc.

Have you seen the baja bug pan that I dropped of at Baja Shop. AJ said I can drop by on wednesday and the cage will be looking good. Thats me and by dads "little" project. We plan to race prerun the 1000 in it. And Brady just dropped the tranny off for the 10 car and shocks are getting the final touches so its getting close.

Ya, Bob raced the silver truck in the prerunner class. I heard he made it about 300 miles. Something like he blew out multiple uniballs, and something took out the driveshaft. Red truck is pretty much retired for now. No money or motivation for now. Ask Morf, he might know more.

I went with Mango so I dont know first hand. Basically it was a snowball effect. Spring hanger broke or something, pitched the driveshaft, then the bolt that holds the lower and spindle together at the uniball broke, then the two bolts for the upper shock mounts broke, something to that effect of events. Trucks a mess from what Im told. I think they timed out but I really dont know. Might run the MORE race this weekend, but Ive heard that before so I dont know.

Up front its running a PRG kit with a modified lower arm to use a uniball and a CST spindle.

Red truck, havent touched it in 6 months or so after putting long, long hours into it. Definitely a bummer that its not going to be finished any time soon after all that effort.
