We used a horn from a security system for cars. It's nice and loud!

I run the supertone hella horn. Usually the race cars run two, but I run one on my baja bug/prerunner and it works fine. You can find one for about $50 and its easy to install.

The Hella horns are loud when your standing in front of them. After 15 miles in my 1600 I can barely hear them myself let alone the cars I am running down. You should run them both. install is easy if it is going on a switch. They do have diagrams on how to splice into the stock system. Im sure it will take longer if you go that route.

I don't think horns or even sirens work against the noise of many cars. I was passed by a late running Class 1500 at the TT250 and only heard the siren as that car was even with my left rear. My co-driver didn't hear it until it was past us. We do run a V-8 with headers and Supertrapps.

Go to www.whelen.com and buy a horn/siren. That is what most of the police and fire vehicles use. They are loud and durable. The SA314 is a good choice.

I've seen these taped to a few cars in the past, hopefully just those who were on a tight time line with the first outing of the car, never the less YES I have seen them used, make sure you get the big one though................

Go to galls.com or google car sirens, the galls website is the close's thing to trophy truck sirens. Then click listen to horns

I have a pretty slow car I run in sportsman class, and I can tell you the best horn in the world is a set of good headlights! Horns are great, and sometimes we do hear the siren type and that helps. The best advice to you fast cars is to turn on your lights in the day races so we can see you coming thorough the dust and we'll gladly pull over.
Just my 2 cents!
