Looks like the first post didn't go through. Anyways, here's some pic's of Mike Sharps new Truggy being built by Bear Race Cars out of Golden Valley Arizona. I dropped the TT Killer off the other day to get some work done and snapped off some pic's. Should be running in the next week or so, can't wait to see it drive, it's been a long time int he making but sure it will be well worth the wait. Sweet craftsmanship throughout. Enjoy.......

Pete, That's what "they" named it, not me. I'll be lucky if I can be a class 9 killer in that car. Don't read too much into it, just having fun. Maybe I can sell a seat and make a million bucks like YOU!!!! ;) You racing the Terrible Towns race? If so, see you there.

Solid axle rear end, with a buggy (open wheel) body= Truggy. Its not that hard to figure out.

im curious why you think its not a truggy?

Me too. Most people will consider an open wheel with a solid rear axle a truggy.

i agree , thats why im curious what he defines it as.

A lot of people like to define a truggy as:
-Front Engine
-Trophy Truck style A-Arms
-Independent Rear Suspension (Trailing Arms, A-arms, etc)

(Truck Front End + Buggy Rear End)

Many people would call this a de-skinned Trophy Truck.

Personally I think as long as its front engine or mid-engine v-drive and doesnt have a fiberglass body, its a truggy.

Oh yeah, the truggy looks awesome.

the hersbest were not the orginals who came up whith the term truggy it was scalzos in the late 1990s who desined this car

randomracer
April 8th, 2007, 17:41
im not sure, but when did the herbst debut. i think it was 1996 or 1997. im not trying to argue with you in a negitive manner, but trying to figure out the right answer.saying late 90's is very vague. so if anyone else could chime in and let us know would be cool.

Truggy= Front engine with Buggy front end(A Arms) and floater rear end(Preferably 40 spline axles) in my opinion, and while we are on the subject, why don't we see more of them? The Shark has been dominating, why so many rear engine class 1 cars?

Well first you said "its not a really truggy" and then you said "the herbst were not the orginals who came up with the term truggy it was scalzos in the late 1990s who desined this car"

So do you agree it is a truggy or not, and if not then what is your definition? I am not trying to argue I am just curious.

CaptinCrash

it is not a truggy

1 A truggy is a truck front end front engine A arms

2 with a rear drive train like a volks wagon dual pivt traling arms

1+2= truggy

this is probly one of the most debate subject in offroad but i know the truth and not trying to push it on anyone

i asking the same thing, im not trying to argue. but took for ever to answer, we should take a poll on what the truth is..or what the opinion is from everyone. so far looks like he is the only one that feels that way. if i remember right a article was righten and the herbst truggy was refered to as a truggy. and far as your ''truggy'' being the 1st what ever with an a-arm front and irs rear it wasn't. there were a few before it. so everyone voice your opinion on this subject. thank you...

an independent rear supsension, would classify it as a buggy, not a truggy. The reason they call it a truggy is because it is basically a truck, with buggy body panels. I dont care where the motor is in it, it could have a v-drive, and I would still consider it a truggy if it had a solid rear axle, not IRS. The biggest difference between class ones is solid rear axle and independent rear supsension.

Tucker,

I believe you when you say Scalzo came up with the term Truggy, but I think the Herbst truggy became the true meaning of a truggy because everybody associates the class one as "The Truggy". Put a body on the Land Shark and you have a TT, put a body on Scalzo's car and people would still call it a buggy. The true Truggy started years ago with Johnny Johnson, then Mickey Thompson brought it to life!

Truggy=Solid rear axle vehicle-truck body

This really seems kinda silly to me. Is it really that important? Truggy is across between a truck and a buggy. Simple. I'd tend to go with the front engine solid axle like a truck, but tube-framed like a buggy def. But whatever...

Ok, clarification time again. David Chrysler came up with the original raceco truggy, I believe that Mike Smith and Scalzo are responsible for the name, and the Herbst Class 1 Trophy truck polularized the term.

Real Truggies don't have solid axles . . . But the main point is that these are class 1 cars with the ability to sleigh the kings of the desert on a regular basis. In this definition, the Herbst "truggy" is authentic.

you are right. it is silly and doesnt matter..., but it just bothered me that a guy takes the time to share a newly built project with us and some guy that cant type, read, or fill out his profile very well and no rep points comes a long and tells some one what there car is or isn't. in the larger part of things it doesnt matter. time and time again i see things start off in a postive way with a post, then some jackhole has to add his worthless 2 cents of illegible chicken scratch. then by saying nice car none the less just to cover your arse... is just a load. long story short it bothered me end of story... thanks....
