Just to make it interesting, I didn't vote for a silver car.

Happy motoring, Tim

Penalty or not, France has a new hero. On his second championship outing in a WRC, Sebatien Loeb left Mcrae, Makinen, and sainz gasping for breath. Makinen is good at final-day charges on the monte, but he'd have needed something special to stop loeb. this guy is pure world champ material. better now, since he's the sole citroen driver now!

WRC, I was just watching some videos of rally cars posted in a different thread. How do the cars and suspension handle that big of jumps!? Can any of the techniques they use be applied to my nearly stock truck. I want it to be more tough since I dont have the money for long travel fancy chit. enlighten me! Tim

The cars are very light and they have mega-buck coilovers in each corner. That combined with awesome fab work, well you see the result. The main thing is that they keep the weight way down and well distributed on the cars.

Mr. Loeb only has one problem. Like Mr. P, he does not know how to drive on loose surfaces, i.e. rain, snow, dirt ect. Other than that, yep he is a great driver. http://www.race-dezert.com/wwwthreads/images/icons/wink.gif

Here is where you have stepped on your #^$%.

Mr. P is truely a tarmac specialist. However, Mr. Loeb is stunning on the dirt. Ever heard of the Super 1600?

In 1998 & 1999 he was the Citroen Trophy champion (mixed surfaces).
In 2000 he finished in the top 10 (WRC) in a Toyota at Corsica (I know, it's tarmac) and SanRemo
In 2001 he was simultaneously the French Rally Champion AND the WRC Super 1600 Champion*.
*He won 5 out of 5 events on WRC stages.

Further, "...he does not know how to drive on loose surfaces..." You're kidding, right? A pretty bold statement from someone that I haven't even seen at a RallyCross.

Happy motoring, Tim

yeah tim, you said it. he basically dominated. watch out for the new mitsu driver, Jani Paasonen..even though he had a rough time at sweden, he shows talent at a young age. And dont forget Markko Martin..if he can manange to not crash something before a rally haha...

Apples and Oranges, Horseshoes and Handgrenades. You can't compare a World Rally Car to a super 1600.... Thats like comparing a 1/2-1600 to a Trophy Truck... I know drivers in Offroad that can drive the hell out of a Class 1 car with a 320 HP v-6 or a Scat Motor thats running 300 HP but have problems with a 700 to 750 HP Trophy Truck, thats wide, heavy, and handles different....... Just my 2 cents...

My point was not that the cars were the same, but that Mr. Loeb has demonstrated significant ability on multiple surfaces.

Come on Tim, don’t be like so many other RDC peeps. I can’t (don’t want to anyway) believe that you of all people would take me literally.
My point: Against current company and equipment, Sebastien Loeb is not up to par (yet) on the loose surfaces. Super 1600 is a whole different ball game, minor league if you will. He is in the “big show” now and a Burn’s, Gronholm, Makinen or McRae he certainly is not, not yet anyway.
As for my bold statement. It’s my opinion and has nothing to do with my own personal driving skill. Hell you should hear me rip on politics’ and politicians but I wouldn’t have the first clue on how to run the country, get my drift. Just my opinion and its not worth the time it takes you to read it.http://www.race-dezert.com/wwwthreads/images/icons/wink.gif
And for the record, I was the fastest kid around the playground on the tricycles in kindergarten! So there! http://www.race-dezert.com/wwwthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif

Back on topic:

The Acropolis Rally (Greece) starts on Friday. First TV coverage starts on Thursday night @8pm then each night after that through Monday at the same time on SpeedChannel. Don’t miss it! For off road fans this is a great rally to watch. Very much like a cross between Barstow & Mexico.
