Ford Trucks becomes official vehicle
For 2002 Optima SCORE Desert Series

LOS ANGELES--Ford Trucks, the durable and dependable vehicle which knows
‘no boundaries’, has become the official vehicle of the 2002 Optima SCORE
Desert Series, it was announced today by SCORE International, the Los
Angeles-based sanctioning body and producer of America’s Foremost Desert
Racing Series.
Also signed as the official vehicle of SCORE International in a two-year
agreement secured through the Southern California Ford Dealers, Ford Trucks
will debut with SCORE at next weekend’s 34th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 500 in
Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, Round 3 of the six-race 2002 Optima SCORE
Desert Series.
Following next weekend’s race will be the inaugural SCORE Henderson’s
Terrible’s 250 in Henderson, Nev. (July 10-14), the 7th SCORE Las Vegas Primm
300 (Sept. 13-14), and the 2002 series will conclude with the 35th Tecate
SCORE Baja 1000 from Ensenada to La Paz, Mexico (Nov. 20-23).
“SCORE is truly honored to be able to have Ford Trucks as our official
vehicle,” said Sal Fish, CEO and President of SCORE International. “Ford
Trucks are at the pinnacle of the automotive industry worldwide and we are
extremely excited for this unique opportunity to test their ‘Built Ford
Tough’ equipment over the toughest terrain on earth. We also look forward to
working with Ford Trucks in cross-marketing their involvement with SCORE and
our Optima SCORE Desert Series.”
Ford Trucks are among the winingest in SCORE history, including
capturing the season title in the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division each
of the last four years. The team of Dan Smith/David Ashley of Riverside,
Calif., won the 1998 and 2001 crown in their Dick Landfield’s Enduro Racing
Ford F-150 while Las Vegas brothers Ed and Tim Herbst won back-to-back titles
in 1999 and 2000 in their Terrible Herbst Motorsports’ Ford F-150.
In addition to use as cross-promotional vehicles, Ford Trucks will be
utilized to assist SCORE in the identifying, designing, and marking of the
rugged desert courses used for SCORE races as well as on-site operational
vehicles at the six SCORE events.
Also part of the SCORE annual partner/sponsor team are: Optima
Batteries, BFGoodrich Tires, Tecate, 76 Racing Fuel, Coca-Cola of Mexico,
Rental Service Corporation, Bilstein Shocks, and Instant Mexico Auto
Insurance.
This year’s Optima SCORE Desert Series began Jan. 25-26 with the 8th
SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge in Laughlin, Nev. and Round 2 was the 16th
Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 on March 2 in Mexico.
SCORE races feature competition for 16 Pro and two Sportsman classes for
cars and trucks in U.S. races and seven additional Pro and three additional
Sportsman classes for motorcycles and ATVs for races in Mexico.
