LOS ANGELES--Optima Batteries, a worldwide leader in the automotive
industry, has become the title sponsor of the 2002 Optima SCORE Desert
Series, it was announced today by SCORE International, the Los Angeles-based
sanctioning body and producer of America’s Foremost Desert Racing Series.
Also signed as the official battery of SCORE International for the
balance of 2002, Optima Batteries is a division of Johnson Controls, Inc., of
Milwaukee, Wisc. JCI is the world’s largest producer of automotive batteries.
The six-race 2002 Optima SCORE Desert Series resumes with Round 3--the 34th
Tecate SCORE Baja 500 in Ensenada, Mexico, next weekend (May 31-June 1-2).
Following Round 3 will be the inaugural SCORE Henderson’s Terrible’s 250 in
Henderson, Nev. (July 10-14), the 7th SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300 (Sept.
13-14), and the 2002 series will conclude with the 35th Tecate SCORE Baja
1000 from Ensenada to La Paz, Mexico (Nov. 20-23).
“This is a welcomed addition to our great family of sponsors and will
assure that SCORE International will continue to provide the most exciting
and challenging desert racing in the world,” said Sal Fish, CEO and President
of SCORE International. “We look forward to a mutually productive

Colorado-made Optima Battery produces a full line of the highest quality
batteries using the rugged Optima Spiralcell Technology. Using a completely
