I’m starting to lay out the roll cage on my 87 4Runner. This will be a street legal (in Idaho which is pretty loose) prerunner which I might race a little. I’ll need to keep defrost, heater control, and vents.

I would like to run my cage as far forward as possible to tuck the tubes in the corners (unlike the cheesy aftermarket roll bar kits out there). Should I try to cut the dash and then make the tubes fit or should I just ditch the dash and use aluminum sort of like this Toyota…

Pros and cons of each? Time, expense, etc.

Ok, thanks for the vote. Any specific reason(s) why?

Ditch the stock dash seeing as it looks crappy and doesn't have much room under it to hid your cage. Here's some pics of th edash I built for my 85 toyota. You could easily incorporate the stock vents and heater controls into it, but this is a race truck so that's not needed. here are the pics.

Looks great, I'll probably do something similar. How did the wiring go for you- any gotchas I need to keep in mind before I tear into things?
