I was wondering how you are doing your secondary door latches?
I did have the idea to use a out of date harness lap belt latch that would be bolted to the B-pillar and the door frame at shoulder level. That would make it easy to get to if we need to get out of our Class 3 Bronco fast.
The other idea I had was a sliding rod with a handle just before the a-pillar at widow level. It would slide into a welded reciever on the B-pillar.
What do you use? and what do you think of my ideas?
Thanks

I use outdated seatbelts bolted to the door and B-pillar as you have described. It's a real pain trying to twist to buckle the latches. I'm thinking of switching to a sliding rod set-up...something like a sliding fence latch. I too would be interested in suggestions.

I used a set of Mastercraft tool bag latches, rivited one side to the interior door panel and one side to the inside of the cab. The straps cost me 5$ from mastercraft

The steel VW spring loaded hood tie downs work OK and have actually held the door shut in a role over.

Two rubber bunjee straps attached to the center of the cage behind the seats with half washers welded on the doors at the upper corner. Keeps the doors closed and are easy enough to open with a little force and roll out of the car if needed. .79 cents at harbor frieght (score one for the HF store) Also be carful with rod and slide idea. I saw a 8 truck that got slammed by a 1 car in the passenger door and bent the rod.

I've been thinking of using Autofab hood pins. You can build a mount for the pin on the inside of the door and a mount for the rubber mount on your door bar. Once closed, your pin will slide through your mount and you can run the clip through it.

That will not pass ARTS safety tech. Have seen rejections personally in both MORE and MDR racing org's. The rubber latches pass tech, but work horribly, those are meant to see tensile loads only...

What makes the rubber latches so crappy?

The nice thing about the rubber latches is that there there for teck. But after that, there as good as gone. You dont have to waste a singel secound on then after that.
