I'm glad I spent so much time in designing and building my roll cage for my baja. Take a look at the attached pictures,(before and after). This is what happens when you are going 50mph through the desert and another car blows by us coming from the other direction and his buddy is on his but following him. I missed the first car but we hit the other one dead-on; too much dust, (even with my lights on) and we slammed into each other and we rolled over the top of the other guy and ended up on our roof. Everybody walked away (except for my fractured elbow). I'm happy to say the cage did its job and so did the 5-points, the fuel cell roll over valve, and the safety nets. I just wanted to point out the importance of safety equipment. Oh well, on to the next project. At least I have a lot of good parts to use and another 1970 VW.
Where's the cheapest place to buy 200' of 1 ½” 4130 tube?

Glad you're still with us! That is a helluva way to test your fab skills and design tho:) !! Where did this happen? I always have the Fodor/McPherson accident in the back of my mind when we are testing in Barstow.

I was out in Ocotillo Wells. It was the second time out with my newly finished project. I spent the last two years building it. I had just finished shaking it down and getting the shocks dialed-in. Oh well, I’m going to build another one. This time it won’t take so long, because I have all of the parts already on hand.

Good to hear that everyone walked away. Its unfortunate that it had to take a roll over to realize that what you built worked. I know this only because thats what it took for me to realize this. I did the sky-dirt-sky-dirt-sky-dirt thing also and still race the same car today. Just had to beat the roof sheet metal to a uniform contour. added a couple of new decals, replaced the antenna, and its good to go. LOL. Make sure if you use any part of the old cage that you mag check it first. A mag check of my cage after the rolls found two fails that I did'nt pick up with a bright light and a mirror. Relax now that you know your stuff works you can have fun with it in the future.

I' m going to trash the whole car after I strip it and start building a new one. My buddy just gave me a 1970 bug for free!
