View Full Version : rally cars
Anybody have any pics they can post of a rally car being built. Pictures of the interior, cage, suspension? I was just wondering how extensive some of these cars are modified to put up with the abuse. thanks in advance.
Here is one that is being built right now. <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=175559>Click Here! Lots of pics.</A>
Rally cars come in all shapes and sizes. This one is being done from a off road racing back ground so it looks much like the building of an off road race vehicle, say a 7s truck. Anyway, hope it helps.

Man, that's a great thread! Was that Scott George/George Scott? That guy had a nice rig and fast time at PHX RallyCross #1.

I think they said the shop was IMZZ, but Kreg was there to supervise. Also, I dunno if that Tundra in the background is the same one DR is prototyping the 16" long travel kit on, the one with custom spindles and unit bearings, but I'd love to see that truck, as I will be building up my tundra after it is paid off.
BTW - I just got my new AR Baja rims on w/ 305/70 r16 Wrangler MT's. They look so bitchen. But now I definitely need to get my gears & locker thrown in.
yup...

What's going on in Gorman?

Wow Marshall! Looks great. Will you be in Production? There were 2 or 3 trucks at Rim; were you there? At least one of them was Group 5. The other (Terry Stonecipher) was in production.
I just realized today that I can't be in PGT in CRS AND SCCA. I'll have to run Open in SCCA 'cause my car is too old ('91). Oh well, I was only interested in CRS anyway.
What's going on in Gorman? August 24 is the next SCCA SoPac/CRS rally event. This will be a one day thing starting at noon, and ending in the dark (10-12?). I'm hoping it will be my first event too. I can't find a web site for it yet, I'll contact the organizer. This is a pure ClubRally Event, it would be a great place for anyone unfamiliar with Rally to meet some people, see some cars, and learn about the sport. (I'll always be happy to have a few extra people in my pits!)
Happy motoring, Tim
hey Tim, the age restrictions only apply to the Pro side of things. No limits on Club I do believe

Mustafa, you're hired! See you in August.
Bill, you are correct. You just saved me a whole lot of trouble! I have no intention (at this time) of running in ProRally. I was just getting ready to install some roof vents. Glad I didn't rip the interior back out.

I just got email from the organizer of the Gorman rally. Here is what he said:
We post information on the Gorman Rally to the California Rally Series web site at http://CaliforniaRallySeries.com Info will go up sometime in June. You can look at last year’s info at http://CaliforniaRallySeries.com/Gorman2001.htm There should not be too many big changes in what is presented there. The date will be August 24, 2002. Costs will be about the same.
This is a great rally to get started at. Easy to follow course that loops around to central service area half the day then two stages out to Lake Hughes and back in the evening. A great Tri-tip BBQ in the parking lot at the finish is included.

I finally got some pictures up. Keep in mind, this car is a long way from being done. But, this thread was asking about cars in progress...
One thing about this project: Some of you may know that I was formerly a class 9 driver. That may indicate something about my financial resources. With that in mind, I'll let you in on a dirty little secret: You can go racing for a lot less than you think. This car (used) $2800. The cage was $800. The suspension $300 (used). TerraTrip $150 (used). 6 Professional (used by David Higgins) rally tires $300. There are a few other bits and pieces, but the bottom line is that you don't need $10,000 to go rallying. In fact, to do it over again, I would have used a front wheel drive car that costs even less.
I hope I have encouraged you to think about getting into rally!
(By the way, I still drive {not own** a kick-ass 10 car off-road, and wouldn't trade it for...)

Thanks Tim,
I plan on running CRS Production or "Stock class". I had the Idea a few years back to run a truck and then went to Gorman last year and saw Terrys truck win so figured I would give it a shot. My wife and I did the ridgecrest school in Feb. so as long as I can keep working OT I think I should be there if not the Treeline for sure. Im about 5 grand into it and figure about 1 more to be racing . Im doing all the fab myself which is a huge $$$ saver. I didnt make it to the Rim. You said you saw a few trucks? Do you know any sites that might have pics? Thanks

I'm gonna have to Court Marshall the General! Maybe we can meet up at a rallycross for a grudge match. It'd be kinda fun to have an "RDC class". Just bring whatever you got, let the stop watch sort it out...
