Driver's Champions ... There were 7 different drivers that won this award from 1983 - 1994. Can anyone name all 7 in order?

I'll post the answer in the A.M. tomorrow.

Here's a hint... The GNST Driver's champ in 1989 also won the 1988 Super 1600 championship...

According to MTEG doc's he was not the winner in '89. It was another Californian... (actually, they all were).

Here's another clue.... The 1989 GNST driver's champion raced in a Ford, and had Toyota power in ***HIS*** Super 1600 the year before.

******** EDIT******** Change the Ford GNST truck to a PPI/Toyota, per earlier MTEG documents...

That would be Robby Gordon then in 1989

Ding, Ding, Ding. You are correct.

That's 4 of the 7 Champs!

Here's another hint for you guys. There Three of the driver's champs had son's that raced in the class. You already guessed one of them... Ivan Stewart (son Brian).

Roger Mears 1985 Grand National Champion

According to my paper's, Ivan Stewart was the 1983 Grand National Champ.

You are correct however, as Roger Mears Sr. was the 1985 Champ.

That's 5 of 7..., and two of the three dad's that had sons in the class. (Roger Jr. raced in the class with his dad Roger Mears Sr.)

I'll give you that one, Walker Evans won the driver's championship in 1991.

That's 6 out of 7.

The last champion left, was in a Mazda, but it wasn't Glenn Harris. Also, it's not Rod Millen, as his championships were in Toyota's. This champ later worked as general manager at PPI. He also won races in a Ranger, and possibly a Toyota after his championship run for Mazda.

As for Rob MacCachren, unfortunately, he didn't win a championship in GNST's.

Soon enough my son.... I'm compiling more and more each day. Soon (relatively) I will be hosting an on-line museum about the MTEG series. Everything I have found will be available on the website. There is quite a bit of mis-information surrounding the series, probably due to the time passed, so I am researching everything to try and provide as accurate information as I can.

The website will have everything from heat/ main event results, to video's, to pictures, to trivia, to technical info, to dyno sheets, to ad's, etc... If anyone has information or memorabilia that I can scan, copy, or borrow (I could never ask anyone to let go of their stuff), I would appreciate it greatly. The quicker I can compile info, the sooner I will launch the website.

A recent discovery has Spencer Low winning two races at the L.A. county fairgrounds (Pomona) in 1982 prior to the MTEG series first events in '83. Mickey Thompson/ SCORE ran the races in '82 also, but the MTEG series as we know it began in '83.

The Mazda trucks ran at the same weight as the Ford 4-cylinder trucks. 2850lbs.

and Mr Stewart. Jeff Gordon drove the toyota race truck one day at the test track. Put it on it's lid at least once. lack of car control, lol. Mr Walker Evans, Jimmy Johnson and Scott Douglas brought their Corr trucks. Mr Evans had the best engines and storys. Scott had the fastest truck. Rod Millen had the best turning control. The rest did not pay there bills so I WILL NOT BE TALKING ABOUT THEM.

When we built the track the very first time in the horse paster. it was from the Denver track. Behind the lumber yard.

Same place I remember when you guys duplicated that tract ( got to love that Toyota budget). That "horse paster" has only seen horsepower. it was all grown over with weeds since the earlier teams and our toys when you saw it. We get a lot of rain and they grow fast...plus 40 years ago it had cows pooping on it.
