I am going to be camping for the first time in Crandon next weekend and I am wondering what to expect. I have been to a few races there but never stayed much later then the last race. Also what is the shower house like. BTW I am going to bring my party shoes with :D

"Jurassic Park" ; "Animal Land" = Fall Crandon Camping

It used to be crazy back there! Rivaled the Indy 500. I've witnessed just about anything you can imagine around a campfire, as well as dancing on busses, slip n' slides (minus proper attire), etc. However, the local cops have really got a grip on things in the last few years. Ever since some drunk ran over a person in a tent (not cool), they have done a great job on taming things down. There will always be a few notable events each year, but much of the reputation is left-over hype from years past. If you go looking to find the crazies, no doubt, you will find them, but overall I don't expect it to be all that wild like it used to be.

Be sure to check out the concerts and fireworks on the hill. They are usually fun.

You can still get into trouble, I had some redneck idiots throw beer bottles at me last year for no apparent reason.

The smaller camping grounds in the area offer more peace and quiet with just enough excitment to be interesting.

Klaus almost got punched last year walking around the camping area wanting to film some locals at 1am.

Foreigner with German accent - "So tell me about your Crandon experiance."

Local with lots of beer in him - "Get that god damn camera out of my face."

Foreigner with German accent - "Ok"

Drunk guys from WI love to fight. I know I'm from WI.

If you ever get into a sticky situation with a WI drunk simply raise your beer over your head and yell "Woooo Beer" and take a big drink. He will then be forced to reply in kind as this is the local custom.

You are now drinking buddies.

Hopfully this weekend is a blast and I dont have people throwing stuff at me!

this thread makes crandon and wisconsin race fans look bad. it is a poor portrayal of racing and partying at crandon. sure the crazies exist, but you have to go looking for them like Klaus was. they most certainly are the very small minority but as the night goes on and the regular race fans go to bed the minority are more and more evident.

my suggestion: stay away from jurasic park if you can. it's not bad anymore but i still wouldn't take my family back there.

I would say that security has the camping under lockdown and it was very mellow.
Mostly quiet bonfires and beer drinking.

We were right at the starting line area and had a nice little bonfire each night and the entertainment was very interresting. The fireworks were cool unfortunetly we couldn`t hear the concert from the pits where I had to stay and work on the trucks. But enjoyed myself and the atmosphere quite well.
