Ive looked and looked, I saw the minuium DOM tubing saw the door bar spec . My question is does the main cage have to be 1 3/4 or 1 1/2 or can a chromemoly car use differnet tubing than a DOM car

thanks

It says in the rules under Roll Bars, section k, Minimum tube diameter for all buggy divisions is 1 1/2 by .090 wall, Round steel seamless or D.O.M. Hope that helps

Rodger that thanks.

Now is a older 1 3/4 chassis too heavy? too old? too much effort? Or can it be adapted to work?

My car is an ex desert car that weighs 1780 with me in it, I've won 1 round, 2nd in 2 and a 9th. So a heavy car seems to work ok so far!

Thanks , for the quick reply I do understand chassis just one peice of the puzzle. And with quality componets surrounding that chassis it would seem to work ok. But then again I was circle tracker

In the mid west all the top cars are dead nut on the weight, infact all of our single and light buggys we add weight to get our weight % right on the nuts. a single buggy weighs 1580 and I know Mike Seefeldt Mark Stienhardt and John Fitzgerald are exactly 1580 at the end of the race. Every ounce counts in my opinion.

I agree on weight to a point, but if thats all you have and you want to try and race that take a chance and see how it goes. So far its worked well for me. Now the new car that I'm building for next season will be much lighter, hopfully it will work as well as the sled I'm driving now. Hopfully I wont get spanked to hard at Crandon Labor Day.

Volkspower thats the additude to have. After looking around and seeing some the 16 cars around I may still have to bring the old tank out. I do understand that weight and weight %,s mean a big deal. But coming in last is still better than hanging out at the shop crying the blues about someone else equipment.JMHO

Weight is a big issue. I have a 2 seat desert car that I race in CORR and it is 1830lbs. with me in the car. I guess I need to go on a diet, ha,ha. I got 3rd both days in the May CORR race, but got killed in the July weekend getting 8th (Sat) and 7th (Sun). I am currently putting together a new light single seater that I hope will be ready for Sept. I think it was more evenly matched when the desert cars ran dualports and short course cars ran singleports. But now that any car can run a dualport weight is huge. Just my 2 cents.

Step one make sure the car's not bent
step two build a jig and tack the old hot rod down
step three bust out the sawzall and go to town
step four Hope every thing works out
step five buy a new chassis

Im I getting close or still way off.

what? they all can run dual ports now?

Volkspower Racing
July 31st, 2006, 19:06
Yea, for now. I heard that there will be a rule change soon. It hasnt made a real differance, all wins out here have been with single ports so far.
Cant wait to see the new ride Kevin.

Dual ports won't help you with the shortcourse only a shortcourse chassis will help you kevin. If you look at lap times all the fast times are on shortcourse cars with single port. Look at jeff's mirage tank. He was rippin some fast lap times both during the race and during practice. It turns on a dime ok maybe a quarter. Can't wait til we go to crandon and get spanked by the experts on the shortcourse setup. At least Jeff will get spanked.:D

That's interesting about that rule change, we haven't heard any thing about that. I wonder if thats just a CORR Cali rule? Do you guys know?

I do agree as far as the length. My desert car it 120" wheelbase. My newer ride will be probably around 100" wheelbase. Troy, you are right both wins were taken by single ports. You passed me on Sunday like I had an anchor dragging behind. Good race. I guess we are tied for 3rd in points, next 2 weekend should be fun.

PS. Troy and Jeff, you guys didn't stick around for the after race margaritas. What's up with that? I will make sure I bring the margarita machine out next race weekend in Chula Vista.
