Phase 6 - Rearend [Archive]

Today I took delivery of the Desert Speciaties (http://www.desertspecialties.com/) rearend. Its a full floater 3.5inch 4130 housing TIG welded unit. Axles will be 40-spline. The 3rd member will be a typical Ford 9-inch style.

Next step is to fabricate the 3-link mounts.

Jeremy (also founder of dezertranges.com) at Camburg welded the 3-link mounts to the rearend over at Camburg to the rearend.

Here we cycle the suspension side to side "duck walk".
Its an extreme and unrealistic scenario that left to right would go from full droop to full bump. A swaybar would prevent this plus the compressing side tire would lean so far inward that it would hit things it shouldn't.

The test was done just for fun and to see how much the trailing-arms and shocks move sideways. One tube gets close to the by-pass shock and we where looking for clearances.
