the good thing is that someone else is bound to make another organization in the midwest, they are not going to let all those midwest cars just sit there, this will create more competition and even more off road racing throughout the country...

YEAH, I love short course racing! I think the new schedule SUCKS! There is obviously no desert racing here and now we lost professional short course racing also.

This is a joint statement of Jim Baldwin/CORR, and Doug Davis, managing general partner of a Midwest group:
"There is going to be a New Series in the Midwest. The New Series will not use the CORR name. The New Series has only ramped up in the past six days. Rules between CORR and the New Series are expected to be similar. There will be no unified points racing. Each Series will be stand alone entities under the 'broad umbrella of closed course off-road racing in the U.S.A.' CORR and the Midwest are talking about potential joint racing dates. How, or if, this would work is to be determined. CORR has interest in running one Bark River and one Crandon points race in 2007. CORR would like to televise those races. The New Series is exploring its own television options. CORR and the New Series are working together to avoid scheduling conflicts. Although nothing yet is final, all of our discussions have been cordial. We plan to continue working together on joint announcements. The Midwest Group feels the announcement of a New Series will be made no later than the latter part of August and as soon as possible. CORR will be announcing its '07 schedule by the end of August. You have our word that closed course off-road racing is going to be taken to new levels by all parties.
End of statement."

Thanks for posting that Hoeker it answers alot of questions.
I really hope that the CORR pro series hits Crandon on labor day each year. In my opinion it would be foolish to miss the built in crowds that labor day at Crandon can offer.

just curious, what is the percentage of SoCal racers in CORR compared to east coast or midwest racers? I know the number of SoCal racers has grown considerably since last October but if a new series starts up back there because CORR is primarily in CA starting next year, won't that hurt CORR's number of entries?

Sweet! 2 CORR events 5 minutes from home!!! I assume the 2 at Pomona would be held at the Fairplex, but who knows where. There are possibly a couple of areas around Pomona that aren't actually in Pomona as well, but are they big enough?

It would be great if the two series could do a championship round with the sportsman and pro classes. A good old west vs. midwest

Does this mean 1 weekend (2 races, 1 Sat. and 1 Sunday) at each location??
For example..
1 weekend - San Diego
1 weekend - Pomona
1 weekend - Vegas
1 weekend - Bark River
1 weekend - Crandon
5 weekends for the season, 10 races total

James, howabout just calling your buddy Josh on the cell and asking?
My ***-ump-tion is this...take note-key word (assumption)
2 weekend(s) - San Diego
2 weekend(s) - Pomona
2 weekend(s) - Vegas
1 weekend - Bark River
1 weekend - Crandon
8 weekends for the season, 16 races total
As you know...the current schedule is 16 races so I can't see them digressing from that as they have TV contracts, etc.etc.etc.etc.
but hey ... that's just my two pennies.

From the sounds of it in Chula Vista is that there will definitely be a race at a new track in Chula Vista 1 mile south of the current for 2 weekends and 2 weekends in the midwest 1 weekend in crandon and 1 weekend in bark river. As far as anywhere else nothing is solid right now. Hopefully by Labor Day weekend CORR will have everything in stone!!!

Joerader, I totally agree with you, I don't understand why JB bought corr, then pull out of the mid-west and make it a socal thing? He forcing the wid-west to start a new racing body. Why not have a regional races and the bring everybody together for a championship, Maybe rotate where the championship is held each year?

My guess would be TV. It's my understanding that he not only bought CORR, but he also purchased MRE (Marty Reid Enterprises). MRE had the production assets (television rights) for CORR. Without the television package that came with CORR and MRE, I think it would have been awefully challenging for Jim to simply start something new in SoCal with the scope that he had in mind.
There's only enough market demand for one short-course series to have TV time. Rather than compete against the mid-west, it seems logical to just take it over.

Alex with CORR told us that 65% of the Pro drivers are from Southern California.

Unless they change the format to include some desert classes or some of the sportsman classes that they run in the midwest, I don't think it's ever going to fill bleachers.
The way it is now, it's like going to an NHRA event without anything running all day except T/F and Funny Car. The filler classes give the fans something to watch between rounds and CORR really blew it when they went away from that format.
Shortcourse is such an awsome form of racing that it's a shame most people will never get to see one in person since the radio and TV promotion is practically non-existent.

They need to add a good ol boy race. Or even a tough truck race where you get locals driving in some terd and racing bumper to bumper with 20 other terds. Now that is good ol entertainment. You have to have something that gives everybody a laugh. Laughter creates conversation at the water cooler then the next race you get a few water cooler fans there and so on. Word of mouth is the best advertising. Then they are hooked once they see all different classes.

I see the series moving AWAY from an all day event. I see it supercross style, practice and qualifying on friday open to the public so the hardcore fans can get their fill, then a 3 or 4 hour show pro classes only on saturday in the evening. Face it most people do not want to sit in the sun all day watching races for hours and hours. Just look at the last chula race, the heat kept the fans away including me...went to the river instead! Quick, action packed show...think supercross. And FWIW, the mid west guys really got (and are still getting) the shaft....

starting to see shadows of the last year of "Mickey thompson" stadium races" when they droped the mini trucks and tried the full size trucks. loved those races but they didnt last long after the switch. the answer is not less races or less classes its more classes. due any of you remember "riverside" everone gets to race and they bring all thier friends and family start early in morning and race all day pros in the afternoon or early evening . but let everybody race and they fill stands. more classes not less.

Each sportsman entry will bring in 15-20 support crew and family memeber. this will help fill the stand and also get the word of mouth out.
I raced SODA, CORR and PACE stadium races in late 90s, using my dezert mini truck. Fun time. I would love to buy a pro-light and get into short course again.
Does anyone locally is building these chassies?
