sent my radio to PCI, they say it checked out OK. I can hear loud and clear when someone calls to me but they can only VERY faintly here me and thats if they are less than 20 yards away. other wise they can hear me hit their radio but hear nothing.
I cant find anything for the life of me. Know anyone in Phoenix that is good at troubleshooting the whole system?

If the radio is fine, then what about your coax? I know they're not supposed to be coiled in too tight of a radius. Is the connection at the back of the radio good? It can only be so many things if the radio is good...

I seen the coax smashed in many race cars under zip ties. Also cuts going between panels and bars. If that is all good, your ant. mount may not be propely grounded (paint or rust) last thing. the ant. it self could be bad in the coil or the coection to the whip. You should buy an SWR meter or barrow one and test.

I would also question your mic. Did you send that to PCI with the radio? If you hear them and they don't hear you with a radio freshly checked out I would check the mic. The mic and the line to the mic probably take the most abuse.

We had the same problem with our radio/intercom setup. Turned out that the factory supplied radio handset used an electret/condenser mic, but the standard mic for helmets and headsets is a non-powered mic (not sure what the proper name of that style is). Since the signal from a condenser mic is substantially stronger, I had to rig up an amplifier to put inline with the helmet mics. Haven't had any problems since then!

Who's helmet wiring set-up is it? It may just need a different mike installed. Did you try someone elses helmet or headset with the system? If it's the wrong mike it will sound weak. PCI uses a dynamic mike in their stuff.

tried 4 helmets, and two head sets, plugged into driver and passenger side, radio, helmets and head sets all supplied by PCI and worked in my prerunner with the same setup all from PCI.
looking more and more like cable issue.

Have you bypassed the intercom with a regular handset to see if it works with the handset? This will help you isolate your issue.

sound like the intercom is bad or you have the buttons and headset jack crossed. Try keying with the co-rider tx button and talk into the driver helmet-plugged into the driverside jack.
just a thought

we just had radio problems in our car and now know how important antennae length is. A guy here in Havasu that works with radios for businesses checked out our whole system and told us that your frequency constitutes the length of the antennae. Also mounting the whip in the middle of the roof helps with reception. It sounds like you are having the same problems we did, and this helped us.

Frank H: you fixed it !!!! Thats what it was. When the truck went back together the navigator plug in got put on driver side. Well at least now I have a new antenna, and new antenna cable and I know very well how the radio is setup.
thanks to everyone for all your help.
