Does anybody know where there is a complete entry list for Dakar 2006? The Dakar website says the race has been sold out since July but I can not find an entry list.

I did quite a bit of searching around on euro based sites as well as the official Dakar site (including the forums) and also came up empty handed. It just may be that the list is yet to be published.

Generally the list is published upon close of entries on the 15th November. Sometimes provisional lists will be released earlier, but not much.

Gee, Fly, now you're Darren's PR chick too?
Thank you Will for posting the link......beat me to it. :) This year's route map has also been published if anyone is interested in that: http://www.dakar.com/2006/presentation/us/r1_parcours.html
Trophysedan, most of the individual teams have their own sites that you can check out for opportunities, or just contact them directly. Although it's kinda late for pre-planning, some may still have things open. Good Luck!

If you find a team....its $12K just to travel with the race (includes meals). When it's all said and done you need about $20,000.00 per crew member. Airfare to and from Europe, additional travel, hotel, before and after food/provisions, at least 3-4 weeks to prepare with the team prior. Then another 3 weeks for the race. If you are very serious and a skilled person, have the time and the money you can get hooked up pretty easily. However, the only US team (Cars or Bikes) is Robby. If you have the $$$ PM me and I could see about forwarding your resume (if it looks good and no Guarantee) to the right person (it could be cutting it close as far as time goes). I was looking into to it several months ago. Too much time and a very expensive exploration. Sure to be something you would tell your grand kids.
A camera, Laptop and Sat phone with net uplink would be cool too. ;>

So, I guess this means that Dirk and Mark just dropped out of the race. That provides a USA/VW team that is in need of drivers so there's an opportunity.

Wow RG charges his team to work with him?? Nice guy. He prolly does it at a profit too, but then it is all about RG isn’t it?? Note that the official team name on his entry isn’t Team USA, its Team Gordon. Team Redbull KTM is an American team, as is PAI, Vangard/JJE Constructors, & Hog Wild. All of who deserve much more credit than you guys have given them up to this point.

Mark & Dirk are not on any kind of national team. They are on the Volkswagen Motorsports Team made up of top international drivers from countries including: Germany, France, Spain, and USA.

Um, chase, my post was sarcasm directed at fly and his veritable mecca of knowledge.......(or lack thereof). The post he made in regards to how much it would cost to join a team is of course, utterly ridiculous. and you're right of course, there are many more teams that are concerting an effort towards Dakar, but I don't see where I gave Team Gordon any more credit than it deserves, I don't have the um, inside knowledge that flyhi does in order to make such reference.

I too find that Fly’s love of all things Gordon to be annoying at best. A little web surfing easily reveals some of the numbers Fly has thrown out. The Dakar event is somewhat different than what we are used to in that you can rent chase/support equipment that are prepped and supported just for that purpose. The costs to rent the equipment are easily found in numerous web sites.
I know that your post was directed at his misinformed comments; I just wanted to make sure that no one was misdirected into believing that there might have been a USA/VW team. My reference to the other American teams was directed at Fly not at you. Some who hero worship are commonly blinded by the light causing undue or unwarranted praise towards the hero and a total lack of credit to others. The “privateers” who attempt Dakar on motorcycles are in my mind the true heroes and to not give them the recognition they deserve as Americans in the event is an insult.
By the way Fly, I spoke with Malcom Smith at the 1000. He says the check should be made out to the Malcom Smith Motorsports Foundation which is a tax deductible NPO. The money will go directly to the Orphanage in Valle de Trinidad.
