I think he was supposed to buy back the orange car from Cam Theroit(sp?), and build it for Dakar.

I think Ryan was refering to the fact that he would have done the same thing if he were in Aflac's position, not that he has seen the car/truck.

I am sure it's nothing short than amazing, can't wait to see it.

Look at his post as a confirmation that Robby is commited to being a part of the Dakar '07. It isn't necessarily a chance to show off that he knows something.

The official site is not configured yet.

But it will be:

http://www.teamdakarusa.com/

Sorry guys they can't post anything yet. But you know how competitive this stuff gets. I can say that RG is on the right track to kill the French and any other non-American across the African desert. I will say that he will not be out there solo either. He must avenge Lance for these 7 year old allegations just coming out. After RG wins the Rally by 3 days those F'n French will say his car was juiced too.

« Robby or not Robby?
Robby Gordon Dakar 2006
August 19th, 2005 (MET) - author: Helge Siems
I just returned from New York State, I was at Watkins Glen for the Grand-Am and
NASCAR and Busch races, doing some work there. (Robby had a great weekend and
finished 2nd in two races, BTW.)
Good news: I had high security clearance for this event, so I went and found Robby,
near his sponsor’s hospitality area, and talked to him for a few minutes about his
Dakar plans, 1 on 1. It was a thrill. I believe we are the first to have this
information, it has not been published anywhere, as the deal is not 100% final:
He will be doing Dakar with a new Hummer sponsorship from GM, using 2 all
carbon-fiber purpose-built special Hummers, under development now.
[…]
They are hiring some experienced Frenchmen for navigators (I don’t know exactly
who), and the second car’s driver is not yet decided. (It was published earlier in
May that Robby asked Lance Armstrong to do Dakar with him, (!) but I don’t think
that will happen. You never know though.)

The Jim Beam Dodge discovered at Bill Davis last month was a mock up car BDR did 9 months ago when they they were also trying to get the Jim Beam sponsorship. It was rumored to be a RG/Toyota effort. RG is running GM for at least one more year.

RGM and GM 2006 -> Baja, Dakar, Indy, Busch, Cup

2007 is up in the air. The COF in Cup has a good chance to change things for 2007.

It's all about speed!

Bezzzant! Wrong answer, please try again!

The correct statement is: The Dakar now has a 150kph speed limit.

To quote the Dakar site:

"As you know, the Dakar is not a speed race. As a rally raid, the main qualities required are the ability to stay the course for man and machine alike, navigation skills and crossing techniques."

So perhaps you should say it's more about the navagation. I wonder if Till is up for going back with Rubby in a Hummer? Last year he refused to go back after testing the VW stating "the suspension is so bad those things hurt to ride in"

BIIIIIIIIIZZZZZZZZZZT your wrong. That is only for Trucks (Big Support trucks T-4) last year and Bikes too for this year.

It's still all about speed for T-2

If it wasn't about speed... RG wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole bro.

FlyHiFlyLo7
August 28th, 2005, 21:08
Robby did bring Till out last year to Poland. RG tried to shove him down the VW team's throat... Good thing they didn't let him, for two reasons. 1. They would have got lost quick. 2. yes that 10" travel would have killed.

August 28th, 2005, 21:45
Do the cars only have 10'' of travel or something close to that? The Jimco's and Cam's car are up around 22'' which is quite a bit. Is is going to race a different class this year that will allow more travel? What about tire size?

Interesting isn't it? The Europeans have this idiotic Idea that 4 wheel drive is a massive advantage. RG plans to exploit this stupid Idea of thinking.

Class T-2 cars (the big boys):

4WD cars are limited to 250mm of wheel travel and a 31" tire. They also have a much more severe engine displacement / weight ratio.

Same Class 2wd. NO LIMIT on travel and new for this year...37" tires (35" last year).

They will trash those rules in 2007 when RG wins by 20 hours. LOL

Guys-

You've gotta remember that a whole lot of this race is based on racing/ NOT GETTING STUCK in the sand dunes. That is where a nice, reliable, light, 4wd machine is great. I'm not saying in any way that Robby doesn't have skill, but, 22 inches doesn't help you dig out when you get burried in a dune. There's alot to be said about the efficiency of a medium hp'd, medium traveled vehicle. Sure, the travel will help in the rough, but don't expect 22" of travel to win a race on travel alone.

New for 2006 they are letting the 2wd cars have remote tire inflation / deflation.

One thing you need in the sand is Floatation.

Rear engine 2wd cars also transfer better to the rear wheels.

A V8 and momentum gets you through almost anything.

What would you rather have in the dunes? A class 7s or a class 1 car?

Tires are also a big deal in the sand. 12.50 wide? Or 10.50 wide?

It would be great to see Robby out there with his Glamis paddles. Wouldn't shock me actually.

FullsizeFun
August 30th, 2005, 02:52
paddles would get tore up before you got to the sand. I beleive the "sand stages" start out on hard pack before you get into the dunes. I dont think paddles are legal either. you cannot have a "lug" or tread going across the entire width of the tire. Just airing down a set of muds should be good.

I agree that "Floatation" is a good concept for a heavier car. Remember though, it has been proven if you don't have a heavy car, you can go without it. A 10.50 tire has won the race for the last few years. There have been plenty of cars racing with a 35" tire that have not won the race recently. Schlesser being the last one.
On the note of a "V8" being able to get you through most anything, I think you're having a little too much faith in the Horse Power. Don't forget how heavy a V8 can be. This race has alot to do with having a completely "Balanced" vehicle. Reliability, fuel economy, drivers skill, etc. With such a large tire, and a V8, you're compromising your fuel economy. This race isn't as rough as baja can be, so I personally don't think a 37" is necessary.
On the note of a Class 7 or a Class 1? A class seven is nowhere close to being comparable to one of the Mitsubishi's. I'd take a Class 1 if those were my two choices. I'd have a hard time chosing the Cl1 over the 4wd though. This choice is based on weight.

New for this year. Last year you had to have a fuel range of 350K...This year 250K

Smaller tank and fuel load = even more fuel economy

Wouldn't this new rule benefit the V-8's even more? They don't have to go as far on the same size tank?
