Um. my name is Aj beck and im leading the Highland Highschool race team this year. For the past few years they have been trying to build a slingshot dragster but i decided to do something a little more budget freindly. My only problem is that the school isnt funding it. We have to earn it really. Im just starting out on the idea but wed like to get a race in before the end of the school year. Basically im looking for sponsors that would like to help us out. Well take anything, u can email me at aj.beck@sbcglobal.net. Once again anything would be greatly appreciated so if your interested please let me know.

What do you guys need? Do you have a car to work with yet? I am sure there are folks on here who will help a school program out. Let us know what you need and lets take it from there.

Well, I just wanted you guys to know that i am a student at the school(senior). The school isnt really going to help us out at all but im doing all i can. Right now we do not have a car. Im currently calling around to find one to buy or someone nice enough to donate one. The school has only given the entire auto shop only $300 for the year so we really are on a tight budget. Im gonna try to organize some type of fundraisers to help out but right now we have nothing. The team was really a failure last year. I think that the project that they wanted was too large. It was a slingshot dragster. Ive been desert racing all my life and I just knew that its definetly perfect for us. I talked to one of the people at MDR and they said they would like to help us out. Really i'd just like to thank you for replying and I look forward to hearing from you.

Sounds like you have quite an endeavor on your hands. I like the idea and the direction as well as your desire to see this go through.

First, find yourself a car and start working backward from there. Right now you really dont know what you'll need.

Get that far and let us know what you need.

Depending on how far you get my dad and I could kick in for some parts here and there. My company could spring for a donation or two as well.

Keep us posted.

AJ,

I'll donate a free entry to one of our races up north. Your team can use it or you can raffle it off during a fundraiser.

Kepp me in the loop in what you are doing.

Also,

You might try www.class11coalition.com as well as www.desertrides.com (buggy section).

You will find not only a ton of people who have already been through all of this, but a large consortium of used parts, people who know where to find parts and also some free advice.

Hope this helps.

If you guys need an engine, I have a complete 1600 single port I'll donate.

It was running when it was pulled form a '68 Bug.......let me know if you want it.

Also, are you guys doing all of the fabrication on the car?
I might be willing to help out with some cage work or other needs.........

My shop is in Montclair....PM me for directions and we'll set up a time for you to get it.

Good luck on the project.....glad to see that your neighbor is helping with the cage but don't under-estimate how long things may take.......I know it's "only" a VW but take your time with it....if you think it will take a day, budget 3 for mishaps, materials, and so on.......

keep us posted on the progress!!!!!

Don't be afraid to buy a good used class 11. I gurantee you will be completely tearing it down and building it back up many times as you race. Class 11 requires lots of rebuilding due to the limited nature of the class. It is a good starter class for those with strong backs. (due to the limited suspention). I've raced class 11 before moving to 7's and had lots of fun. I wouldn't go back though. Good luck and reply back with any questions.
P.S. stock pile tires and fenders.

Seen a few cars go from between 4-6K. For a complete ground-up build expect to spend no less than 5-6k.

I found an old La Rana/Score Class 11 car minus transaxle and eng for $2000. Spent another $3000 on the eng, trans, and misc. to get the car to the starting line. Did I forget to mention the many, many, many hours in the garage?. If you dicide on buying or fabing a cage, make sure you run the bars all the way to the front beam, upper and lower for strength.

But once again i would love for someone to contact us out of pity and please help me out. I would be so thankful. um this is to Klaus, i dont know if this is true but my cousin Jason Dangelo says he knows u. Is there any way that you caould help me out?
