I am out of town at the LV Cup race and my abs light came on. Now it sounds like wheel bearings on the drivers side are grinding. Are there any local people on this site that can refer me to a shop that can (look and/or fix) the problem this weekend?

Thx
Steve

Not to question your diagnosis, but have you checked the brakes? Pull off your wheel and inspect the pads and rotor.

(racbaja) Yes, It was the front bearing's. I guess the bearing's on a 4x4 just use a c-clip and are pre-loaded, so no real adjustment. so they ended up replacing the entire hub assembly. It was sounding pretty nasty by the time I got it in the shop. What really sucks is I took it in on sat. 4pm they had to order parts to arrive mon. called at 10am mon and they did not have them in yet, so I rented a car and headed home. When I got home today I checked my cell(which had no service between lv& phx) and my truck was done at 1pm. Good for me I guess I'll be at the midnight race in el dorado valley this weekend....thanks

Front wheel bearing failure on 4x4 Super Duties is very common; they often don’t last 30 to 40K miles, especially with larger wheel/tires installed. Dynatrac make an upgrade replacement kit that solves the problem. I’ve also been told that the ‘05’s are different, eliminating the problem.

what size tires are running on your super duty? did you take it to a ford dealer or a local shop? most ford dealers stock those. you would think las vegas would have the parts in stock. i use to have 35/17.5" wide tires on my 00 super duty and one bearing went out at 50k miles i took the tires off at that time and put 35/12.5/16 on it and i have 100k miles on the bearings know with out any problems.the bearings are super easy to replace you dont even have to get greasy for the most part. the 05 front diff is alot beefier then the older ones but im not sure if the bearing design is any different.bottom line is if you put to big and wide of tires on any truck the bearings are going to feel the pain.

They are a 315 so basically a 35". I ended up taking it to a local shop that was only 1 mile from the strip.

So has anyone else had problem's with the front wheel hub bearing's.....Are the factory one's serviced,by pulling the cog lock nut, vacuum seal to get to the needle bearing and put back together after R/R and all good. I know ther is a @#$%load of SD out there, that still run stock hub's on this site....Just dont feel like dropping ($1400 buck's on the dynatrac set-up) to ensure that my pass. side won't go out traveling to my next race..

huh!! i dont know then. i guess im lucky to have over 100k on wheel bearings with 315/16 bfg;s on 16X10 wheels. i would not worry about it to much if it goes out again then i would maybe think about an up grade. but for $1400 you can buy alot of bearings.
