Summer Bros. Outboard CV Hubs

Folks,

A couple of cars I'm considering have these rear hubs. They are both from the mid 1990's. How hard are parts and such to get for these? Any input on reliability/performance/maintainence?

Summer Bros is still in business. They are in Corona. Just had a set of rear hubs rebuild by them. Easy work and quick.

Good hubs, we have them on lots of our cars including class 1's. Easy to get parts, bearings and seals aren't a fortune like some other hubs and you can get them anywhere they sell bearings and seals. You will have to get a tool from Summers to take them apart and put them back together. Only problem is they seem to let water in sometimes and then can rust pit the bearings so always prep them after a wet race and be carefull when washing the car not to get water in them unless you are going to prep them, just don't let them sit after water gets in them. Also pay attention that there is a left and a right if you remove them from the car, and get them back on the car on the right side or by driving it you will unscrew the nut that holds it all together and your tire will pass you at a high rate of speed, know this from experiance! Left hand thread and right hand thread, I didn't think it made a difference!

I just picked up new end caps from them a month ago and they were still in Ontario. Mine have never been used, but they are a great design, minus the seal leaking problem. If I am not mistaken, the seal must be broken and trashed when taking the hubs apart? (someone correct me please if I am wrong)
