you must be talking about a suburban or tahoe cus the half ton 2wd trucks ARE a coil front end.

i thought they stopped making the "1500HD" in 04 because they were a joke and noone bought one. maybe im wrong.

I just checked the chevy site, it says they still make em. I don't see why putting coilovers on a truck with torsion bars would be any harder than a truck with coils. Don't you scrap all that stuff anyway?

Seems we know at least one guy that bought one :D

Helton... take a walk on the lot next chance you get :)
Some of the 1/2 ton 2wd non-HD Silverado trucks are indeed built on the torsion bar IFS chassis. These 1500 Silverado trucks have basically the same IFS suspension as the 2wd 1500 series Suburban or Tahoe. This started back in 2004.
As far as a LT kit goes... custom custom custom.

Why do some have torsion and some have coils?

My guess? It saves money. Since the 2wd Suburban 1500 and Tahoe are built on the torsion bar suspension it makes sense to build the 2wd Silverado on the same one. More and more manufacturers are going this route. Their 2wd trucks and SUV's are basically the exact same as the 4wd but without the transfer case, front differential and axle shafts. The steering knuckles are different, but the frame itself is the same.

I believe they dropped the 2500 non-HD b/c it was basically the same as a 1500HD. Also, I am pretty sure that all full size chevy trucks and suvs have torsion bars 2 and 4wd. Im sure they did it to save money.

Aww Helton, you need a hug? I thought you'd get a kick out of my Heltonesque response :)
Not sure GMC made the change. GMC is weird about some things. Here's a so-so pic.

I'll bet it's a VHO(Vortec High Output) model. They started out in only select states but they are offering them everywhere now.
On a side note, did you guys see the press release that GM put out? The LQ9 is going to be an option on RCSB trucks(about freaking time) for the 06 model year. I can't wait to pick one up.

what is a lq9 option or a or an rcsb for that matter. must be a gm employee code thing?

the LQ9 option is the 345HP 6.0 engine and the RCSB is a regular cab short bed. :)

So you are saying they are putting my mom's Escalade motor in a tiny truck! Sounds like a good idea to me. Will the gearing be any better, the Escalade is "quiet"

My brother in law's 03 2WD 5.3 ecsb IS Torsion bar front. I just checked last night.
The gearing is what you order it to be. option code GT4 is a 3.73, GT5 is a 4.10. GM most likely put a 3.42 or a 3.73 in there. The 4.10's mated to my 8.1 are overkill, but it'll pull a house off it's foundation. Just sucks when you're pulling 3k rpm doing 85 down the highway.
